Cougar Buttes, CA - Feb 2017

Hooked up with the So Cal TTORA club this past weekend and gambled if there'd be any rain. There was supposed to be a huge storm on Friday and Saturday but by the time the trip came around, the majority of it came on Friday when I was packing. So Saturday ended up being cloudy all day for the most part and no rain whatsoever.

First uphill was fairly steep and slick. Definitely an eerie feeling when you slide to the right going up this face.

Start of Cake Walk trail. There were multiple options here but most of us started at this downhill.

One guy had an entire film crew with him (drones, SLRs, smartphones). He must have learned from experience that when you're driving by yourself, you're dependent on others to take pictures and even more reliant on them posting them. I'll probably have to wait a few weeks before any shots of my rig come to the surface.

Things got interesting here. All of us went the easy way but one guy opted for the more difficult section of Bullfrog.

This drone shot shows where everyone else went while the white 4Runner took the northern route.


The trails kept going but we broke here for lunch and then played on this last obstacle. It was pretty challenging as you can see. This guy was inches away from flopping but ended up getting out and conquering the obstacle on his second run. The rest of us followed.

After lunch, the group splintered off into different directions with some camping, some heading home, and our group overlanding over to the Rodman Mountains to find petroglyphs, communication towers, and Box Canyon.

Very cool. I've never heard of Cougar Buttes. Going to have to check it out.
