Could i be giving away my subs?

hey does anyone know how good the stock alarm on a 2000 4runner limited is? im thinking about putting subs in and an aftermarket alarm is really expensive because of our chip keys. will my subs be ok?

If they open the door, the factory alarm will go off. if they bust a window, it might not go off.

No body will steal the car because of the chip key although you can still get car jacked.

my set up got stolen in my first 4runner, they broke the tiny triangle window then popped open the door. if you do put a systen in, make sure you can still slide the tonneau cover over to hide them. I did this for my second system in my new 4runner and no problems yet (knock on wood)

Unfortunately if they want it, there most likely going to get it. (just look at the catalytic convertor posts) Chances are they probably know ways around whatever security you can come up with. But I know that when I have left my windows open and locked the doors, then tried to unlock the door manually though the window the alarm goes off. Your best bet would be like was mentioned above, slide the tonneau cover over your cargo area, don't put a bunch of audio system stickers all over your back window, and a good tint never hurts. olice:

Or get an over sensitive alarm. My buddies Tacoma chirps of you walk too close. He does not like how sensitive it is, but he had a winch stolen off his bumper last year.

See there's my other problem. I've got decent tint on the back. It's dark just not the darkest. And my cargo cover was missing when I bought the truck. I had a viper auto start alarm on my old truck but they want 350 dollars to install it on my 4runner! The alarm was 400 new.

Buy a cargo cover. They're like $50. The other thing is pop the speaker out, drill a hole though the sub box and the floor and bolt it down. Reinstall the speaker.

This is also a safety measure as if you get in a head on accident, you don't have to worry about the sub box being a projectile and whacking you in the back of the head.


Plus they will have to open a door to try to get it out and the alarm will go off for sure.

Most of my friends put in pretty expensive alarms to protect their systems, but it didnt help much. The thief smashed the back window on a Subaru wagon and ripped the sub and amp out while the alarm was going off. By the time your out of bed and out the front door they are gone.

What has worked for me is turning your sub off when your close to where you park. If your car bass isn't turning heads in the parking lot and your cargo cover is on, who even knows you have a system?
