Counterfeit Injectors - FYI

Brilliant

I got some counterfeit injectors recently. Thought I would share.

These came in leaked, filled my cylinder with gas, and it leaked out forming a puddle on the ground. Good news, no fire, no engine issues.

OEM packaging (left) vs counterfit ones (right). Differences are of course the box vs bubble pack. The label text is different, one oring is red not black, and no paint dots on OEM.

edit: i got a full refund, but the tow, the oil change, and the possibility of damage or a fire was hardly worth it.

Where did you buy them?

Was it a parts website or eBay?

ebay: lots of sales (ks), no neg feedback, brick and mortar parts store, 1 set for sale. I thought it was maybe customer cancel or getting rid of a set they had.

Submitted counterfeit claim, refund is in the works.

Brilliant,

Were the boxes the same? I am seeing more and more counterfeit crap on Fleabay and Amazon these days.

Why the need for new injectors? Just wondering.

oem package is a bubble wrap sack stapled together. The boxed ones are the fakes.

I had an injector go out and didnt want to deal with another one shortly after. It was easier to replace them all and not worry about it. ... so i thought

Give him a call:

you have to be careful on ebay, I recently ordered a set of wheel spacers, and had several of the lugs fail on the same spacer. I went to return it, got declined and then I tried to leave a negative feedback and was not allowed to because I had tried to return the item. I called ebay and they gave me my money back but when I asked why I couldnt leave feedback they said it was to protect the seller. bullshit if you ask me.

Pretty sure I bought the same injectors about a year ago. My truck just hasn't run right since, I'm wondering if it could be an injector issue still.

Any chance you can get some closer pics of the parts ID stickers on the counterfeits? I don't need new injectors, but I'd like to know just how close to OEM the knockoff stickers are....for some unsuspecting fool like myself.

Do the part number stickers themselves used on OEM parts have any distinguishing characteristics that fakes clearly wouldn't? I wouldn't know a knockoff injector vs. the real thing.....or many other parts/fakes for that matter now that I think of it.

The text is wrong and probably what I would look for.

Doesn't say OEM or original Toyota part. It says new Toyota part - that simply means new part for Toyota. Gotta read CAREFULLY. Hey they may work better than OEM, who knows!? :cowboy:

I called him directly...he claimed them to be OEM.
