CoverKing or Custom Leather for Front Seats?

Hi all,

Wanted to get some opinions here.

I have been slowly converting my interior from clothe to leather and am halfway there. I picked up some used OEM Rear leather on eBay and they look amazing. sadly i lost a bid to get the fronts so i have been doing some searching and need some help!

The availability of used OEM fronts in good condition is pretty rare so i have been looking at replacements

1. CoverKing Leather Covers $499
2. This ebay guy for $759
2000 2001 Toyota 4Runner Tan Leather Seat Covers 2 Back Rest and 2 Bottoms | eBay

For reference the OEM used ones i got on ebay were $230 and fit like a champ.

I am leaning towards the more expensive eBay guy because the CoverKing ones seem rather cookie cutter and cheapish.

anyone have experience with either of these options?

I don't have the leather ones, but I just got a set of cover kings in polycotton drill. I'd give them a B for fit and a D for customer service. They sent me the wrong covers originally and then put the impetus on me to babysit the whole process of getting the replacements. No rush order, no shipping upgrade, had to wait the entire normal cycle time twice.

Ordered my covers June 22nd, received a set that fits on August 1st.

That said, the build quality is good, and the fit is good, too.

good to hear, I am going to go this route since my minty leather seats are not so minty any more...

Check with [MENTION=65101]BrianSD_42[/MENTION]. He just had his seats re-done and they look great. Personally, I'm going the route that Brian went. Looks really professional and thats the look and feel I want in my t4r.

I only did one seat and it was pricy. I'm not made of money. I would not have paid $2K to redo ALL the seats in leather.

It was really the new OEM foam that made me the happiest. The leather is great as well.
 
Go with the leather

This is literally my first post to one of these forums, EVER.

But I had to chime in with my experience with the custom leather seats from ebay.

They are amazing! Period. I only did the bottoms for my 4Runner in the front since they had a rip on the drivers side when I bought it. They have been in there for over a year and I could not be happier. The difference between the worn and ripped leather is night and day. My seats are now nicer than some new cars.

I have coverking custom fit covers. I think they fit great and have held up. The headrest cover is a little funky but as long as you keep the headrest pushed down it looks good. In the end they are still covers and not as great as real upholstery. Eventually I would like to get Katskin leather seats, which are around $1000 for the front and back seats.

No offense, but I don't think those look like quality at all. I see crooked seams, raw edges, unfinished borders, just not appealing at all. They're better looking than the ones I bought, but for the money CoverKings wants I'd expect something a little more quality.

Well yeah. I said in the end they are still covers. There are three options. Cheap $30 covers that look like total shit and all over the place. $200 for decent ones like these. Or a thousand or more for real upholstery.

LOL, they dont look that bad. Again you get what you pay for.
 
I recently spoke to a interior guy who comes out to my local dealer who fixes leathers seats and he quoted me 168.00 to repair rips and replace leather panels and to redye my seat Chocolate brown to match my wood grain. I don't think thats to bad of a price.
 
The coverking pics don't look to bad to me, the seats in my 4runner are just trashed, and so I've been looking for similar options myself.

If I were to get the coverkings I would add extra foam backing for a tighter fit to fill them out a bit.

Just curious if anyone knows if other Toyota car seats will fit in our 4runners with minimal work involved.

I believe I read an entire thread of people replacing their seats with other seats, whether custom or from other vehicles. I think they were able to fit a range rover seat and also the land rover seats haha.

Thanks everyone for your responses thus far. This forum is great! I think I might bite the bullet and get the ebay ones that appear to be a complete replacement. Might also contact some local leather upholstery shops to see if they would do it any cheaper.

if anyone has a contact in the Los Angeles market that would be awesome, else I will hit up yelp to see what happens.
