cpo or go new?

for the past 2 months, I have been in the market for a new car.. The car I was looking was an 2013 GS350 F-sport with low mileage. My budget is about $35k.

I have been looking at buying cpo.. the prices weren't bad. but for the right one is hard, I have found 2 2013 GS 350 F-sport cpo with low 20's miles for $35k and those were sold within a day.

i don't know whats the hell is going on in the bay but the prices are high, really high for an used car.. they are asking $39k-$41k for an 2 years old car with miles between low 30's to the 50's..

I called the few bay area dealers, asked them about it, why their's is higher than the others by this much for the same car if not more miles than the other 2.. they didn't have an answer. I'm just sick and tired of these ***** and their damn game..

now, should i just keep searching or up the ante and buy new? the new one's are about $52k vs $40's for cpo.

Unfortunately I think it's a reflection of the ridiculously out of control variance in living costs of the Bay Area. Most people would rather buy CPO or Used because it's typically cheaper than New; but in the Bay Area the rates for Used vs. New are so close it's usually better to just buy new (much in the way you're lucky if you can find a used garage to rent for less than a grand...) That combined with typical dealer greed and "if we can get away with it" attitude just contributes to the fact that being a Middle-Class and living comfortably in the Bay Area are just incompatible...

Even our dealership in the East Bay is selling some of our older used vehicles for ridiculous prices, the worst part is I see them selling... so people are buying. :(

Fremont dealer really irked me.. is ridiculous how they are selling an $35k car for $40k.. i asked stevens creek lexus and he had no answer.. plus the attitude, omg.. just go haze yourself.. one of the sales manager over at fremont insulted me and i refused to go back to them.. i told him what i want, but instead he offers me something else.. they are bunch of self center ******..

they should be the one catering to you not the other way around.. you're the one spending the $$$.. you are the customer..

I wouldn't take it too personally, their job is to sell cars. I usually will give them the first two free...

i.e. if I walk into a dealership and tell them I want a 4Runner and they show me a Highlander I politely, but firmly redirect them back to what I am looking for. They try it again and direct me to a Rav4, I'll firmly return to what I am looking for; if they try to deviate from what I am asking for again (i.e. when I've made it clear TWICE that I want a 4Runner and nothing else), my business with them is concluded.

I try to be polite but very clear with what I am flexible and inflexible about, if the dealership cannot meet those requirements, then there is no reason for me to do business with them. Unfortunately the buying a car game is a notoriously shitty experience and there's plenty of turns that will leave a large hole in your pocket if you aren't careful.

Maybe not what you want to do, but i hear stories of people making a vacation out of it...that is, buy it from another state and then flying over there and driving it back home.

Buy from Canada. The Lexus GS is about $60k+ taxes new but the 2013's are in the same price range as the used US ones you are describing. So for me, it makes great sense to save about $30k by buying one 3 years old. With current exchange rates, you'd pay about 78-79% of the Canadian price. Food for thought. The GS is also not widely available... Like the 4Runner, you have less negotiating power so does the dealer really need to bend over?
