Weathertech mats arrived today. Not bad but i wish they were more rubber in feel instead of hard plastic. Can't complain though if they keep my carpets clean. Hopefully they'll settle into position a little bit better...front driver side is sticking up a bit around the foot rest/door area, else i will need to try to use a heat gun to soften that part to relax it.

Taking my statement back about wishing the Weathertech's were more rubber. After driving with them in place, my shoes did not slip and slide around, even when wet. Thoroughly pleased with them and a whole lot better than the $299 mats Toyota tried pawning on me.

so i've had the truck for about a month now and it just rolled past 1k miles. am getting about 18.5-19mpg with me driving most of the miles and i'm pretty light footed (wife took it a couple of times and she averages about 1-2mpg less than me) so am pretty happy.
i did have to put it into 4wd once when parking in the muddy lot of the corn maze 2 weekends ago. not so much fun because: a) family was with me, b) got mud on the weathertechs (but they did their intended job).
i've got one complaint so far and that's rattling of the front passenger side door. from what i've read, this is a pretty common complaint. mine happens even when the volume is only turned to 12 or so...am debating whether or not to tackle this myself or ask the dealer to take a look (for fear they may break something). most likely will take it to the dealership but need to find out what the process is to get service (with wife's car, i schedule and get a loaner but not sure about toyota). may wait to the 5k miles service.
so far, i'm doing pretty good at not modding the truck although i have eyed the body lifts, upgraded tires, and TE wheels. i need to visit this forum less so i don't give into the urge of modding...lol.

i know this all too well...
noticed something about the tranny in the 4runner. when accelerating downhill, the transmission likes to hold the gear longer than any other automatic car i've ever owned and driven. now, i understand about engine braking but this is the first time i've ever experience this (ecu doing this instead of manually selecting the gear). is it normal for the truck to stay in gear at say 3000 rpm's even when accelerating slowly down hills (when it would shift at about 1800-2000 rpm's on level ground)?

so i didn't like the stock SR5 steps so found a set of NFab's for sale locally from a member here. was afraid wife would not like them but she actually found them easier to use than the stock steps.

ok, i got bored and it was beautifully warm out today.
tried my hand at plastidipping the side and rear emblems. they are a good 5 footer. sprayed 3 good layers on and seemed to get good coverage. once i started peeling the excess off, i noticed that the sides of the emblems were not covered so well. for now they will do but i may spray them again in the future as it would be a pain to remove as is. in the rear, the excess piece near the N started peeling the dip on the N itself so I had apply more coats to fix it, thus the blacked out N in the pic (no finished picture as I needed to head out somewhere).

and forgot to mention, i also have it in my head for some odd reason, that i want to build a custom roof rack, something like the k9 rack i have seen. don't see it being too hard to do this as i have a small welder capable of doing this...problem is time as i am still working on my rx7, currently working on modifying an exhaust system to fit my application. i'll leave this here to remind myself that i need to finish one project first before proceeding to the next but maybe some day i'll get around to doing this.

Hey, seeing as you have two little ones, what are you using in the back for a seat cover? I have one with a second on the way soon and want to make sure I am protecting my seats - I have redwood leather.
Also, this is to everyone but has anyone ever seen any rear seat protectors akin to what Subaru offers for some of their vehicles? Really, really helps when putting the seats down and hauling.

My 6 year old knows not to kick the back of the seat since it'll be her truck when she starts driving. Baby is still in rear facing infant seat so no issue there but I've seen those generic seat protectors at kids r us or toys r us which I might try later on
Have a look at KAGU Maxpider mats- semi-rigid form like WT/Husky but in a rubber CF design.
