crack in windshield

Hi All,

New to this forum. Just bought a 2015 4runner two months ago and just noticed a crack in the windshield yesterday. It is right in the middle of the windshield behind the rearview mirror, starts at the top and is approx 8 inches long. No chip or anything. Have any of you heard or seen anything like this happening? I checked hear on the forums but couldn't find anything current. Really irritated. Don't know what happened.

Really? It's the bane of 5th gen ownership, other than being the envy of the 3rd and 4th gen guys. Very common issue. Some are on their 3rd and 4th windshields.

I got my first crack at ~750 miles. Temp tag was still on. Buy glass insurance.

Any idea why this happens. Not happy to hear this. Who wants to have their new auto in the shop all the time getting a windshield replaced. I will do another search on the forum and see what I kind find.

Not really and issue for most folks around here

My regular auto insurance policies have always covered on-site, no-deductible, glass replacement, regardless of cause. In an area with a lot of construction going on all the time, windshields get broken a lot due to dual wheel trucks throwing rocks up. I even had a seagull drop a rock on it one time - and I am 200 miles from the coast....Check your insurance policy, and if it does not cover it, get your agent to revise the policy, or if they won't, change companies.

The glass guys come right to my office or house, and replace it on the spot in about an hour or less. They even switch any inspection stickers, etc. to the new glass.

Well I originally thought there were no chips to cause the crack. I went back out and checked again and sure enough two very small chips right in line with the crack. What are the odds?
