***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

I called and filed a claim. Got the same thing as everyone else. They won't do anything unless enough cases are documented so if you haven't called in, do so.

About the trade in, probably won't but I certainly shouldn't have to shell out nearly a grand for something like this. My dad had a 68 mustang with orginal dash and no cracks. None of my other cars ever had a cracked dash and I've had hondas and acura's with over 200,000 miles and not one issue like this and not to mention zero rust on the frame. Never gataged. It's frustrating. My truck is a baby with the mileage and well maintained

Wow I just came back to the forum to see if I could find anything about this crack. What is wrong with the dash? I never used any Armor All, then I started to see that cracks so I thought I better put a little on to prevent the plastic from drying out, but it is still spreading slowly but surely across the the passenger side. I guess I have to put in a call to that address in the beginning of the post.:roadkill:

My email to Toyota

I wrote this to Toyota.
I will creating a Facebook page for anyone who has cracked dash. This way we can be heard, instead of being ignored.

As you should be aware your company has a major problem with dashboards cracking. It is common as I attached just two site for 4runners and Lexus suv that are experiencing cracked dashes. I own a 2004 4runner and the dash is cracked so bad I am embarrassed to have anyone in my car. My 4runner is in excellent condition expect for the dash. A good friend of mine had a 2004 4runner and sold it when the dash cracked 2 months ago and she bought a new Hyundai SUV. She loved her 4runner so much she was going to buy a new one but said no way when the dash cracked. This might not be consider an emergency to you but it is a major problem and you should correct this problem seeing I'm sure thousands of people are dealing with it. I have a 1992 Honda accord. I am the original owner and there are no cracks. Hmmm I guess poor quality is acceptable by your company. I am very upset that this is acceptable to you.
You should be concerned for your customers and repeat customers.

Please read the below sites on cracked Toyota dashes. You should be embarrassed.

That is a good idea

Cracked dash

My 03 and my daughter's 04 both have cracked dashes. Obviously a flaw. Out of warranty they hardly will give you the time of day.

Face Book page for everyone to show theres a problem with Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

I created a Facebook page for everyone to say that they have a defective Toyota and Lexus dash.

It is under the following heading in Facebook.

Defective Toyota Lexus Cracked Dash Boards

Who knows maybe this will help us out.
Have a great weekend.

2004 - mostly garaged kept. Two hairline cracks forming.
I just bought it and don't know history about armour all or any cleaning agents.

2004 4runner Dash Cracking

I have the same problem... crack runs from drivers side air vent to air vent on right side of the radio. (Over half the dash.) Then another crack above the glove box by the air vent approximately 7 inches long. I went to the dealership yesterday and I was quickly blown off. I was told there were no documented cases of the problem. I called Toyota to complain to no avail. Case # 130614 0369

The only way toyota will cover this out of warranty is through a recall and for that to happen people are going to have to be seriously hurt or worse caused by the cracks interfering with the passenger airbag deployment.

Toyota or any car manufacture doesn't like recalls because it is bad pr.

Just joined and purchased 04 with cracked dash

So do I need to call the number and open a new case or just add mine to the existing case. Thanks

I have an '05 SR5 and just recently, also developed a long crack several inches long in the dash, above the glovebox. The rest of the vehicle is in pretty pristine shape.

Last car I had with any cracks in the dash was way back in the '80's!

Wish I saw this before I bought a 4th Gen....

Guys, wow, sorry to hear about all these cracked dashboards. You've got me paranoid now. I just bought a 2005 4Runner Sport Edition. I never have seen a Toyota dashboard crack, and my family and I have owned many in the past. So it never occurred to me that I should check the dashboard. At work now, but I will be checking mine out when I get home. If I do, I will be sure to report it to Toyota.

There is that, but mostly they don't want a recall because this could cost them 10's or 100's of millions of dollars, depending on how many actual cases there are

Crack kills - ive owned toy trucks all of my life- Had 30 year old land cruisers and one 40 plus at times - no cracks....the new to me 2005 has a crack above glove- Toyota HAS skimped as the years go on...

I was going to try uv protectant like 303- this always helped tonneaus and tires
to helo prevent more cracks..

2004 Toyota 4 Runner Cracked Dashboard

These are photos of the dashboard of our 2004 Toyota 4 Runner. Since the day we brought it home, it has been garaged. A little over 5 years ago a small crack developed. We weren't too concerned but more cracks began to appear. Concerned, we took it to the Toyota Dealer who informed us it was out of warranty but they would be glad to replace it for a cost of well over $2000. I came home and Googled the problem. Surprise! There are hundreds of us out there with the same issue yet Toyota says too bad. As it got worse, we again took it back to the dealer where they said that they would take a $1000 off or so of a new dash. So we are thinking, does this mean we will have to have a new dash every 4-5 years. I called Toyota main headquarters and they told me that our problem was unique, there is no verification of this problem. WHAT??? I told them just Google it, people have reported it and without any satisfaction. I also told them not to worry, that I would get their verifications for them. If nothing else, I hope that this will serve to warn prospective buyers. As much as we love how our Toyota runs we will NEVER buy another one. Maybe this help you decide if trying to make up your mind. I too have gotten the runaround. Here is what they said, must be a case number - We have added your email to file #1208280942.

I have also taken matters a step further and posted the photos and descriptions on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/debbie.mar...29342597202.1073741827.100005104110554&type=1
