***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Please give me title to this facebook link.

I also posted on my fb page. Please supply me with the link to this page your requested.

I created a Facebook page for everyone to say that they have a defective Toyota and Lexus dash.

It is under the following heading in Facebook.

Defective Toyota Lexus Cracked Dash Boards

Who knows maybe this will help us out.
Have a great weekend.

It was suggested to me to contact the National Transportation Safety Board plus the attorney general and the NHSB??? I show pictures and my rant on my facebook page Debbie Hummel-Marconi.

Check this out!!!

I kept reposting on Toyota's facebook page my problem w/photos. They would delete my post. I did this several times. I finally get an answer from Toyota and here it is below. Pay special attention to the warranty assistance that they 'said' they offered me on 8/13/13 HUH???? That means it should still be good, right???

Toyota USA wrote: "Hi Debbie: Please accept our apologies for your dissatisfaction. The dash is covered under a 3 year or 36k mile warranty (whichever comes first). Because your vehicle is outside of these warranty parameters and there are currently no Customer Support Programs regarding this concern, Toyota will not be able to further increase the amount of out of warranty assistance that was offered on 8/28/13. If in the future a Special Service Campaign (SSC)/recall or warranty enhancement is issued that would cover your specific issue, and you have already made repairs to the vehicle, Toyota would review your repairs for reimbursement at that time. If you have further questions, feel free to contact our Corporate Headquarters at 800-331-4331 (M-F 5am-6pm & Sat 7-4 PST) ^TJ"

That is BS. I wish i knew somebody that was in law and would like to put together a class action law suit.

Toyota replies yet again...

Hah! And the saga continues...

Toyota USA wrote: "Hi Debbie: Thanks for the follow up post. Per the case notes on file at Toyota Corp, a case was initiated on 8/28/2012 in which you informed us of the condition and in reply we extended an offer of a loyalty rebate in the amount of $1000 for the purchase of a new or Toyota certified used vehicle. The offer was extended in that manner due to the fact that the affected vehicle is simply to far outside of the warranty parameters of 3/36 to extend an offer of repair assistance. Our apologies for the dissatisfaction and as always we appreciate you taking the time to follow up. ^TJ"

So you think I would buy another Toyota? If I hadn't found so many issues related to mine in my research, I might have taken you up on it.

However, I believe that this is not a problem that is unique to me. And seriously??? $1000 that would be hidden in your figures just to be added on when we went purchase another 'Toyota' vehicle.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Don't plan on making the same mistake again. Hah, not to mention that our trade-in would be far less because of the cracked dash.

While I can see you are not going to resolve this issue, I will at least have comfort in knowing that I will still be pursuing other avenues of satisfaction.

I asked a friend of mine about a Class Action suit but he is in Criminal Law and this is a civil matter. I am trying to think if i have any friends that are in Civil Law.

If we have even a minor accident and the airbags deploy, we will end up with millions of pieces of the dash embedded into our bodies, eyes included. I have had enough of their lame excuses and am finished with them. I will be pursuing other agencies i.e. anything with a dot gov. behind it and so on. It would be nice if an attorney would pick this up because this problem is certainly not unique to me.

I posted my latest conversations w/Toyota on your page. We all need to be heard. I am planning a HUGE email blast to many dot.gov agencies. This is just not right.

Hopefully I won't be flamed for this, but this is my opinion and no facts are behind it.
Putting airbags behind the dash is a relatively new thing. They had to make the dash weaker than the 1980's and 1990's to make sure the airbag deployed properly. Since it it new 'technology' they are probably still perfecting the formula for toughness. I don't think they skimped out, it probably cost more to make it liek this than make it rock solid.

That being said, I am just as pissed as you all. I would prefer a rock hard dash and a little cover for the airbag like it was in earlier years. I have an 04 that I think was mostly garage kept and has two hairline cracks in the dash. I don't cherish my truck like most people here and I will likely only have it for 3-6 months, but if it bothered me enough, I'd just buy a new dash. They can't be that expensive and should be routinely available since they need to be changed when the airbags deploy. Considering the staggering amounts spent on cosmetic mods, this one can't hurt that much more.

Just my $0.02

A new ash is around $1000, plus about another $800 to $900 for installation. I personally find that a little on the expensive side. There is now reason a dash in 2003 should be cracking on it own when most of these trucks have been well taken care of. Not that i planning on selling mine for a while, but it will kill a resale value and interest. It doesn't help that Toyota/Lexus just ignores the customers.

I appreciate the effort most of you have put into calling Toyota. I really appreciate Debbie taking other avenues on resolving this.

Another cracked dash

My wife's 2004 4runner just got a crack in the dash running from driver side, above the gauges, and to the center of the vehicle. I drive a 2001 dodge ram and it had the same problem with dashes cracking and eventually collapsing on themselves. I called corporate and went round and round with them, and finally they agreed to install a new dash for free but I had to pay for the parts (free labor). Eventually I agreed since it saved me a lot of money and the truck was already several years old (believe I had it fixed in 2010 or 11). There was also a short news clip on youtube about the dash problem. We need to figure out a way to get the news involved or at least make some videos of our cracked dashes and put them on youtube. Have to spread the word somehow so Toyota will listen.

In panama we have the same problem with the dashboard, in the 4runners 2003-2009in the Land cruiser prados 2003-2009. In my case, my mom bought the car in december 2005 and in december 2006 it was starting to crack. The dealer asume the responsability and replaced the dashboard for free. This new one maintained the shope until 2011 and it started cracking all around. My father bought a new one in january, it is OEM and cost 600$, and the replacement cost 100$.

Cracked on my Dashboard

My 2004 4runner V8 with a 40,000 milleage, bought it new and meticolously care inside and out. No major problem yet only battery and tire had change and it sits in my garage most of the time. Here frustrated to find out that cracks in my dashboard from driver side to the passenger side above the glove box. I even used dashboard cover and protectant since I got this Car but still got major cracks. Called dealership to asked if covered by warranty but unfortunately not, even with my 10 years warranty. Will call to submit claim to toyota today.

I'm wondering, would this be a case to submit to a local TV news station? I'm sure it would be interesting to hear Toyota respond to that! I would be willing to do that, but like I said before, my dash is (knock on wood) not cracked, so I wouldn't have anything to show them. It would at least get you publicity on this problem, and I'm sure Toyota doesn't need any more negative publicity after that whole ugly recall mess a few years ago. Just a suggestion.

i have 2 hair line cracks as well, the car is garaged all its life and even if i park i put on sun shade. i have dark tints all way around.

Pretty pissed off.

cracked dashboard

New to the group. have 2004 4-Runner w/ appox. 185k miles. Dashboard started cracking / peeling a few months ago. Never thought about it until I saw the same complaint from others here....(chalked it up to getting old). I will be making a call to Toyota this week..may not do any good, but maybe it will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

It helps to see that others are having the same problem...not a good probllem, but knowing there are other owners to bounce questions off of will be nice.

I received this email a few weeks back regarding my complaint for this problem:
"Hello Russell, thanks for adding the accessories - interior complaint with your 2003 Toyota 4Runner Sports Edition - it's been added to CarComplaints.com! Click here to view your complaint.

You reported this problem a long time ago - we're swamped. Better late than never. Sorry it took for us to get your complaint on the site!

When you experience any other problems with your 4Runner, please remember to come back & add them using the Add Complaint form.

Cheers,
-Sarah

Don't know how many have put their complaint on that site as well!

I am pissed too, but I think a news outlet would laugh at you.
And even if you did get a news place to give you the publicity, it would last 48 seconds and nobody would remember it. Toyota wouldn't even need to acknowledge it.
When it comes down to it, they are going to call it a cosmetic issue on an old car...
