***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Add one more to the list. '03 Limited 4WD w/ 162,xxx miles

Mine started as a hairline crack right above the far left drivers side vent (the one closest to the driver door) about a year ago and I just noticed at the start of the summer that it has spread across three quarters of the dash running horizontally over the instrument cluster and stopping right above the passenger side center vent. There's also just a hint of a crack directly above the glove box where the dash rounds towards the windshield.

I never use any Armoral (sp) on my cars and always use a sunshade. I was really surprised that this little hairline crack made it's way all the way across that far. Not happy. But if you think about it, I kind of feel like an ass complaining about something cosmetic like this when the truck has been pretty much flawless otherwise. However it is a bit annoying that it's something you have to look at every time you get in the truck now, since IT'S RIGHT THERE STARING BACK AT YOU.

I have a friend who does very good interior repairs that says he could take care of it, but it would be nice if we could get Toyota to somehow supplement the cost.

My 2004, garage kept, has started doing the same thing others have, splitting for no apparent reason.

Has anyone found a fix for this? Lots and lots of posts, members with the problem, but in reading through the threads I have not seen where anyone has a fix or has convinced Toyota to admit a problem.

Hope someone has figured out a way to resolve this as the high cost to replace the dash is not in the budget.....

I have the same problem... crack runs from drivers side air vent to air vent on right side of the radio. (Over half the dash.) Then another crack above the glove box by the air vent approximately 7 inches long. I went to the dealership yesterday and I was quickly blown off. I was told there were no documented cases of the problem. I called Toyota to complain to no avail. Case # 130614 0369

Just as a side note...I parked by 2001/2002 4runner at work today so I HAD to look at the dashboard. And wouldn't you know, it has absolutely NO cracks anywhere!! Something is very wrong with this picture I do believe!!! Very angry about this situation!

I just joined the forum to let you guys know that toyota is changing the cracked dashboards for good will. I just had mine chaned free of cost and i have a gray toyota 4runner 2003 limited 4wd 142k miles. I went for the pedal recall and they took pictures of the dash and i got the call to have it replaced free of charge two weeks later. I hope you guys have the same luck as me.

That is really cool they did that for you. I have been wanting to get by the dealership, where I bought mine and have had it serviced ever since, to see what the owner says. Was yours replaced by the dealership or did the replacement come down from Toyota USA?

It came down from Toyota USA.

That is fantastic news! Maybe Toyota USA is finally accepting responsibility but it sounds like the dealerships have to go to bat for us. I will be pushing it this week. Thanks for letting us know.

That's great news. I have a 2004 Lexus GX470 and it has the same issue with cracks. I'm pretty active on Club Lexus dot com, and many GX owners have the same problem.

This morning I was at the Toyota dealer where I get my GX serviced. The SA, who I have worked with for 4 years, said he wasn't aware of a formal policy from Toyota yet regarding the dashboard issue.

To luistmw - was the decision by Toyota on your dashboard on a case by case basis or was it a formal policy for dealing with the dashboards?

Add Another Tally to the List

Just purchased a 2004 limited three weeks ago. Installed a new headunit within the first week. Three days later noticed a crack coming off the center trim above the headunit. Started out at 4 inches and has worked its way closer to the gauge cluster in just a matter of days. Did not purchase from the dealership but will be going by to speak with Cox Toyota of Burlington, NC tomorrow. Now that people are sharing there stories hopefully this can get some publicity.
Will put up some photos as well.
Nothing worse than purchasing your first vehicle that was flawless and having this happen during the first month of having it. :pout:
But I guess if this is the worse thing that happens to it..

Gonna send this to as many Toyota emails as I can!

For a company who has always promoted quality and craftsmanship, why can they not recall an obvious flaw concerning the dash of 2003 and 2004 4runners. Dozens of cases have been presented to Toyota USA by members of the T4R.org and Toyota still denies there is a problem! Look at the page and tell us its an isolated incident! http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/122935-***cracked-dashboard-action-request***.html

over the last 4 months mine went from perfect to cracks EVERYWHERE...its ridiculous so I called in as well, makes my truck look like crap

I am going to start a list of claims/claim numbers. Just copy it and add your information. This way we will have a list that can be submitted.

I basically went to the dealer because of the pedal recall and i asked if it was normal for the dash to crack. And they toldme that toyota is replacing them by goodwill and they took pictures and sent them to toyota usa and two weeks later i got an appointment to get it replaced
