***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

I basically went to the dealer because of the pedal recall and i asked if it was normal for the dash to crack. And they toldme that toyota is replacing them by goodwill and they took pictures and sent them to toyota usa and two weeks later i got an appointment to get it replaced

Congrat's! Hopefully both Toyota and Lexus will stand up and do the right thing.

luistmw congrats.

luistmw you are the first person that I heard of that received a replacement.
I take it that you are not in the in the USA. I see Puerto Rico. That might be the reason why they are correcting the defect.

Congrats!!!

Cracked Dash

'03 4Runner, started a couple of years ago and has spread from left to right. Instead, I would ask if anyone has come up with a clean solution? ...other than carpet.

Did they replace your dash for free? Or was it just BS from the dealership?
If they replaced it please let us all know. This will be away for everyone to show that there is a problem and a dealer took care of it.
Once it is done there will be presidence for replacement.

As several of you have posted, there is an issue with some of the dashboards in the 4th gen. Since i work from home my truck is parked in the garage 90% of the time and is very well taken care of. I never use any Armorall or any other chemicals on the dash. About 3 or 4 years ago it developed a 6" crack on the dash above the glove box. I paid an interior guy around $150 to fix it, thinking it was a random thing. Over the last 6 months i have cracks going all over my dash. Since mine is an '03, it is way out of warranty, but this is still unacceptable. Obviously this is a default in the dash material.

I just called the Customer Relations number and opened a Claim. After going through the whole deal, the guy said there wasn't any information from Toyota on this issue, so they couldn't do anything. He did say that if there was more claims towards this issue Toyota would be taking note and would probably do something. At this point all we can do is try with a joint effort.

If you have any issues with your dashboard cracking, without any previous damage, and would like to try to get it fixed call this number.

Mine has 2 large cracks above glove box called Toyota and got a case number. Here's the email I got back from them........... BTW, mine has been garage kept since 2009 no products used on it (damp cloth only) I now have 115k on it. These cracks just showed up within the last 15k miles (about a year).

Count me in. Noticed one above the left AC vent at the A-Pillar a few weeks ago, and literally ran across the dash above the gauge cluster what seemed over night.

Have not contacted Toyota yet, but will be soon as others have.

My case number

Just bought a 2005 Sport Edition V8. Bought it with the dash cracked.

Opened a case today.

130 909 1801

I already had an appointment with my local dealer to look at something else (clunking after releasing brakes from full stop). Toyota's friendly customer service person (Kyle) suggested the dealer look at it. I am to call Kyle back after the appointment - they may be able to provide "after warranty assistance" if the local dealer is unable/unwilling to help me.

Just purchased a well taken care of 2004 Runner with 140k Original owner always had it detailed. All sorts of cracks all over the dash. Any new info on this?

Same here. 2003 Limited with 150,000 miles, garage kept, 3 big cracks in the dash and looks like crap.

dash covered with cracks on 2004 limited

I have emailed Toyota concerning my wasted dash. They claim it is out of warrenty, and therefore not their problen anymore.
My case # is 1309192219
Hope together we can get them to acknowledge the problem is unique, and caused by inferior materials. My SUV is always garaged.

Looked at a 2003 with 130K on the clock and the dash was all cracked up. The 2004 I ended up buying has 112K on the clock now and zero cracks anywhere. I wonder why some crack and some don't? Climate? Number of hours exposed to direct sunlight? Chemicals used/not used to clean it?

Claim Made

Just picked up a 2003 4runner this weekend and the dash is cracked. I called and opened a claim. Claim #130962092

I think it has little to do with miles and more to do with time.

I just bought an 04 limited with only 27k miles on it and the dash is cracked. The larger cracks were professionally repaired by the previous owner. You can tell it was cracked if you really look but now that they have been repaired and sealed it probably wont crack (at least there) any further.

You CAN repair them, its just extra expense for something that shouldn't be happening unfortunately.

No way I am going to get anything from Toyota on an 04 at this point...if it gets extremely bad I suppose the dash could be replaced if I found an acceptable donor...guessing most all the 04 dashes in existence would be cracking as well.

New Case # for '03 Sport Edition

Case # 1309280670 opened on 9/28/13.

03 with 57k miles. Sits in garage 7 days / week. Rarely ever in sun. Cracks appeared just yesterday. Dealer is taking parallel path with case number provided by Toyota. Did not take long to find this thread and show it to the service mgr at my dealership who tried to blame it on Armor-all (which I do not use).

Made clear that my decision to ever buy another Toyota will depend on how the company handles this issue. This is an inexcusable manufacturer's defect and will have serious impact on these vehicles' resale value. Whether the vehicle is 10 years or 3 years old does not matter in this case.

I work as a Supply Chain professional for one of the largest auto tech companies in the world and Toyota is one of our top 3 biggest customers. I'll have to take my Toyota customer rep to lunch in this vehicle and explain the very poor response from Toyota if/when they fail to make good on this insane quality problem. They force their global vision of quality down their supply chain structure as if it was some type of cult religion.

3rd Toyota from this dealership. See email response below from Toyota.

Cracked Dashboard

My 2003 V8 Sport has the same issue. I haven't contacted anyone about it yet. I have a long crack that is above my stereo and a couple on the left side of the gauges.

I paid to replace mine last year...it was $1200 but very worth it. It was my fault for using alcohol based cleaning supplies though...but mine made it to 165k before it cracked and its never been garaged...lol guess I got lucky. mine started above the gauge cluster and within a week it went all the way across to the passenger airbag and spidered all over it!

Now I need new carpet...anyone know where to get it aside from Toyota? I have an 03 limited.

Call Toyota!!!

Okay, I called toyota yesterday and filed a claim for my cracked dashboard. I got the impression that if more of us with this issues called in they may actually do something about it.
