***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

I'm so excited that us forum members pushed forward on the warranty! I called them 8 months ago and they said that they didn't have a warranty for the dash replacement. I just received my letter in the mail to have it fixed! :rapture::clap2::clap2::clap2:

cracked dash!!

hey guys i just bought an 2003 limited with a cracked dash.i did get a good deal on it though.it looks like this.at first i was worried it was the airbag that popped out since its a clean title and clean car fax.does it look like a normal crack or something caused by an air bag.?

I haven't seen that shape crack but they have been all over the place and all sizes/shapes. If it shows up as clean it should be good.

i just got underneath to double check.seems like the headlight has been replaced as its a different brand.and theres a white spot on the front frame on the same side as if it has been repaired.its a smooth silver spot like someone sanded it down.would this cause an airbag to deploy?and do you know it this is the spot where it pops out from?wouldnt it leave a worse crack?sorry for all the questions but this isnt what i expected from this car as i just bought it.

I will be calling tomorrow. I got lazy after I moved and mine cracked after 2-3 months of not using any products. I usually use Mothers VLR, but the little amount of time I didn't use it, or anything it split all over. Oh well, itself be new and pretty soon!

I just called them today and heard the good news.Mine came with nasty shiny armorall all over the dash but the damage was already done. good to hear theres finally a fix. Many thanks to who contributed.

Called today and they said i should get the letter in the mail. Haven't gotten it yet, but there's still a good bit of time. They did say I was covered though. thanks to momo.75 and all others for pestering toyota until they did something! Now just to get the sending unit and TRAC/VSC working.

Bought an 05 from a local dealer about 6 months or so ago....dash is fine

didn't call or contact anyone and got a letter in the mail, good to know i'll be covered if it ever does go south

I wonder if this is goodwill on Toyota's part or if there have been cases or concern of cracked dashes throwing dash shrapnel when airbags deploy.

Regardless I'm extremely happy they are doing this. I don't plan on selling my 4runner anytime soon but if the day comes then at least I don't have to worry about potential buyers low-balling me because of a dash

Now I just need to get my quickly fading fender flares painted

I got the letter in the mail as well. I have a 04 SR5 V8 and the dash looks fantastic. No cracking of any sorts. The vehicle has mostly been up north, but it has sat outside a fair bit. My gold exterior paint is fading into silver, which I am fine with though. :)

I guess I'll just keep any eye on it. What's the cost of replacing it if not in warranty?

I spent some time a read this entire thread. Great work btw on getting this going! there is some progress here in Canada but not enough for Toyota to take action, I called them about a week ago, talked to Toyota USA witch said they can do nothing for me but I have to call Toyota Canada, so I did and after talking to them they said that they have noted the problem on my vin number at Toyota but have not heard of the problem (ya right) I told them the name of the program going on in the states and hopefully things change, he said if any type program starts up for dash replacement I will be notified :canada:

Wow I also have an 03 Limited I bought two weeks ago the cracks on mine are identical to your pic , actually mine is white w grey as well thought you had posted a pic of my truck for sec... When I looked at the truck I just figured some passenger rode with there feet up on the dash causing the cracks but after reading all these posts clearly its a quality issue on this model. My truck has no evidence of prior accident damage and has a clean carfax as well.

Cracked dash

I will be calling the Toyota 800 number this week. I never would have expected Toyota to do anything about this and never would have known without T4R.ORG !!! Thanks .
I will post Toyota's response to my call .

Does anyone know if this applies to all 03-05 4Runners?
I just bought an 03 SR5 that spent all its life in Florida and has a bad cracked dash. I went by the dealership and they said mine was not showing up as being part of the recall.

I would call the number on the first post. The dealership is probably just trying to get out of having to do the work.

Ok I just got off the horn with Toyota they gave me a case # said the letters wont go out until May but they updated my owner info so I will get the letter when they go out. Thanks so much for starting this momo.75 !!! I bought this 2003 4Runner Limited 4.7L for my wife 2 weeks ago her only complaint is the cracked dash. Now she will be even happier.
Thanks again man !

I don't feel like reading this entire thread but I received a letter from Toyota like a month and a half back saying my dash was going to be replaced from all of this. #winning.
