***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Just got back from the dealership and I am good to go. Service advisor took a picture and said they will put me on the list.

Bad news - November/December timeframe.

Wow that late. Someone was put on the list about a month ago and the dealer said the parts arrived about two weeks ago. My dealer said to just wait for the second letter and won't be taking photos until then.

You guys have any idea how big the crack needs to be? I have one on the passenger side, about 2 inches long, bu it hasnt split very wide. You cant even see it form the drivers side. Im just worried that its going to grow over time.

Look at my crack on page 40. It's about 2-3 inches and its covered.

I would think it should be covered. I've been calling every couple of weeks to see about an update, but nothing yet. Parts are not ready. It's a BIG safety issue for Toyota and if airbag deploys the dash may injure you. That's what they're worried about. Trying to head off lawsuits... So even if no cracks the dash may come flying at you like buckshot.

I received the Warranty Enhancement letter back in late March, but still have not receive the 2nd letter from Toyota yet.

Should I wait for that 2nd letter or I can bring my car into the dealer to ask them to repair the dashboard ?

Anyone received the 2nd letter yet telling you the parts are ready ?

Thanks

There are no parts just yet that I'm aware of, so it would be a waste of time to show up. I would just keep calling, parts will eventually get here... maybe by 2015 I hope.

new dash in

Dropped off at 9am picked up at 4pm...

Looks good only negative is they did the safe stop recall even though I asked them not to and it was on the work order that I declined from having it done

Looks great! They were able to do it in one day? Is the material different?

The parts are in??? I was told they were not in by multiple NC dealerships just this week. Anyone else had theirs done?

Sureshot was one of the first people to go to the dealer about this issue and was added to the wait list some others have said there dash won't be fixed until November by the dealers.
I'm a little slow, what is ZE6 CSP? Are we on texting abbreviations here?

That is the Toyota code for this dashboard service

That's interesting that he was added to wait list. Leith and Fred Anderson around these parts in NC said parts not ready yet, just check back or wait for second letter. Did he get the second letter? Sounds as if everyone is going about this different.

never waited for any stupid letter, and never received one, assumed with 3,000,000 vehicles affected this would turn into a cluster F

read about recall on here in January, called Toyota and found out i was approved and got a reference number, called dealership (Sunrise Toyota, New York) in late April went down for appointment where they take pics, dash was ready 2 weeks later

he told me at appointment "they will not order part with out inspecting it first"

yesterday i asked you have a bunch of people coming in? he responded we have done quite a few dashes already.

They gave me a loaner PRIUS and it was done in 6hrs

A BIG GIANT THANK YOU to the persistence of members here who contributed to the resolution THANK YOU

First off it's not Recall, its a CSP (Customer Support Program.) Toyota is not obligated in any way to replace the dashboards by the NHTSA or EPA, thus this is a completely voluntary warranty enhancement of Toyota's discresion.

As such, they get to write the rules on how they want it handled and as of this time there have been no rules released. So far there's been no Stage 2 Update or TSB released to indicate what is considered "acceptable cracking/stickiness" according to Toyota and what warrants replacement under the ZE6 CSP. So all the dealers who are doing the dashboards right now and/or saying "it's not cracked enough" must either have some super secret information that has not been distributed on TIS as is historically done; or they're just talking out of their asses and hoping Toyota won't nail them down the road.

Typically all our CSPs will have an accompanying TSB with instructions on diagnosis, identification, repair, part numbers, ect. to go along with the CSP. (Trust me I am watching TIS like a hawk for the TSB so I can get my dash done under warranty as well.)

I remember getting this letter earlier over winter, and checking out my dash real good. There were no cracks at all. Last night I noticed a long one along the edge above the stereo and a second crack on the passenger side air bag. If both keep cracking there is only a few inches between them to make one giant line across 2/3 of the dash. My original concern was it would happen after the 2017 deadline, especially since I keep it parked in the garage so I'm happy about that if I can get it fixed. Still, I'm amazed how fast it went from nothing to this.

I have not received a second letter, and have probably temporarily misplaced the first one. I'm a ~100 overdue for an oil change so I probably will take it in to the dealership this week and see if they will inspect it at the same time. Is there anything else I would need to do before or after, or can the dealership handle it all?
