***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

I haven't gotten any letters. My address is up to date with my registration. I sent an email to Toyota with pictures. Their response:

Dear Mr. Stacy,

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

I apologize for your concern regarding the dashboard of your 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V8 4x4, and thank you for the photo.

Recently, Toyota has launched a Customer Support Program that will address your dashboard concern once a dealer completes the inspection. We will be notifying owners of this campaign for actual repairs mid-May 2015 and are currently notifying owners who have previously paid for the repair to submit a claim to Toyota for our review process.

Due to limited parts availability at this time, it is not possible for Toyota to immediately replace affected Dashboards for vehicles covered under this Warranty Enhancement. We will send you a second owner notification letter as soon as sufficient parts have been prepared and obtained to repair this cosmetic condition for affected vehicles. Dashboard replacement under this Warranty Enhancement can be completed after receiving the second owner notification letter.

If you have previously paid for repairs to address this specific condition, please refer to the owner letter for reimbursement consideration instructions.

Toyota values you as a customer, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concern. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us at Contact Us | Contact Toyota

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #(edit).

Sincerely,

James F.

Should I go to a dealer?

I have not received any letters and I have had my case # since the beginning of May. I have called Toyota USA twice since then and they just tell me to keep calling in to check the status. I Iive in FL and my dash is FUBAR...

I never received any letters even after opening a case with Toyota. Last week I was in for another one of our cars and I spoke to the service manager about it, he said bring in the truck to get it inspected and id be put on the waiting list for parts. Just got a call yesterday that the dash is in and I'll be dropping it off tomorrow.

So Toyota recently released the parts list to dealerships and we are starting to see these trickle in. Best thing to do now is to stop calling Toyota USA and go to your local dealer and get on the list for ordering parts

I dropped mine off this morning, it's already ready to get picked up.

Everyone who has had their dash replaced, are you guys sure that they are the new part numbers? If the dealer just ordered the old ones and threw that on there the issue is going to crop up again in a few years and then you wont be able to get the TSB done.

Dealership I contacted said parts were still not available yet. That's the last word I have received and that was about 3 weeks ago.

Does anyone know if the "Cracked Dashboard" extends to the components? For instance my JBL radio has a cracked surround. Mine is a 2005. I wonder if this is just age. It started to crack due to heat one summer between the "Tilt' and "Open" buttons and over the last two years has become worse.

This is Seattle, and the car is garaged over night so very rarely does it see extreme temperature swings.

Nope, the ZE6 CSP only covers the Dash Pad itself.

Though to be honest that actually looks like someone may have hit/banged it a bit too hard and caused it to fracture, that's a pretty thin area of plastic with little support.

Post Note-

Just to reiterate, I posted new information regarding the ZE6 CSP/TSB for the dashboards in a link in my above post. Part numbers, detail information about what the process entails and so on can be found there.

Took mine in this past Saturday, they told me the exact same thing.

Called a dealer and they setup an appointment to bring it in for inspection today at sterling mcall Toyota in Houston and when I got there, they said no inspection (take dash pics and odometer mikeage pic) or dash orders till October. Wth.... But they looked at my dash and agreed its the typical issue.

Took my 03 into the dealer in Western North Carolina. The service center guy looked at the cracks, and said I had a good case for a new dash (The crack runs along the top of the instrument cluster so clearly is not wear and tear). However I had to book it in for an hour next week for a tech to do a formal diagnosis. The service center guy said that the tech will take photos, fill out some paperwork, and send it off to Toyota HQ to get approval to replace.

Ahh, ok, Thanks BlackWorksInc.

It wasn't hit, it just started with a crack and on a hot day noticed the crack had popped up. I'll find a replacement :)

Called back after not hearing anything since case number received. Turns out they are not going to send me a replacement anymore due to 4Runner out of the USA despite having been bought in the USA and a Toyota dealer here in Jamaica.

Ugh, yeah some of that "is it registered here or move there or whatever" clauses they've added to warranty coverage is really confusing. Sounds like it's going to be an uphill battle; sorry to hear that. :(

Huh, that's weird... Yeah good luck, you may just want to upgrade to a newer Scion Headunit or an aftermarket unit. Those older factory units can be pricey for what little you're getting (compared to say a Scion HU or an aftermarket HU.)

Something is up with the Houston area dealers cause I had a similar response out at Toyota of Katy. First service guy I talked to on the phone acted like he knew nothing about the issue until I hit him with the facts (tsb, etc) and then he admitted it was something they were aware of but had no details on a fix. After getting a case number from Toyota directly via phone I took it to the dealer anyway and they just looked at the dash, recorded the mileage and said that was all they could do now. They didn't take any pictures either but proceeded to tell me that parts weren't being made available from Toyota yet and it would likely be December before they knew anything. Instructed me to call them back in November to see if any update was available. It seems as if the Gulf States Toyota dealers are being told to avoid it almost. I dunno, but my 2003 dash is fubar so it was pretty obvious.

How odd, perhaps they're having some supply issues with the dashboards and they're asking the dealers to buffer customers a bit? I have my dashboard coming in a couple days supposedly; so far this is the second unit I will be doing at the dealership (I just did a Camry for a customer today) and they've been pretty quick on the turn around/releasing parts with pictures and everything.

I mean the Primary Warranty coverage doesn't expire until 2017, so it's not like if you guys don't get it done in the next month or two that they're all gone. But it's odd that the dealerships are dragging their feet the way they are...
