***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

While that's somewhat logical, it a warranty job which means it's gonna get flat rated as much as possible (you break about even taking your time and going mostly by the book I've found doing dashes.) So if the tech that is gonna work on your dash is cutting corners they'll do it in 2017... or you might get lucky. There's been enough Camry dashes out that most of the "dash guys" have got how to do it down.

Hey BlackWorks, What do the techs do when they run into a vehicle that has multiple electrical mods that are non-OEM? After seeing the pic of how much is taken apart to replace the dash, it made me think of all the switches and new wiring harnesses that I have run through the dash and center console and what would happen to all that. Thanks.

Must be nice.

Well my idea behind taking it to the Hendrick dealer, which is 3 hours away, vs taking it to a local dealer here, is that im hoping the tech will take extra care and pride when replacing my dash since we both work for Hendrick, and I may be able to go into the shop and take a peak or two while hes doing it. The company really pounds pride into every employee they have. Plus ill be able to visit some family while there.

I also ran wires through the dash that im worried about. I plan to make a note on the service ticket about them.

I would imagine the "right" thing to do would be to take the time to ensure they didn't damage any of the extra wiring and such. I've run into this a couple times and t does make the job a loss from a flat rate perspective, but you have to do right by the customer in my opinion and do the job the best you can.

Unfortunately there's different kinds of people who are technicians, so I can't speak for anyone but myself and the theoretical. Even then I'm far from perfect.

Got a 2nd letter last weekend. Took it to the dealer here in Oklahoma today and they said the dash will take about 4 days to get here. Sweet!

What dealer do you work at, I will drive it to you!!!:hail::)

For anybody in the DFW area: After getting completely blown off by Toyota of Dallas, I called Toyota of Richardson and got better results.

They are not even making folks take it in for a physical inspection. They are asking you to take your own pics of the cracked dash and then just email to them. They will contact you in a day or so after that and get the part ordered.

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately I am off work for a while... About that not being perfect part; managed to almost cut my finger off doing a window regulator so I'm out of the game for a while. :(

I feel your pain, I almost surgically removed my pinky with a chain saw a few months back.

Hope you get better quick!!!

Sorry but I am at work and trying to avoid reading through the entire thread. Are folks contacting their local dealers first, or going straight to Toyota Customer Service? Mine has had severe cracks in the dashboard for some time now and just figured it was normal given the age of the vehicle, 2004.

Recall completed

I received a recall notice for both of our 4runners 2004 and 2005.
Just got the 2nd one replaced at the toyota dealership in Atlanta. No problems, looks new!

Just went to pick up our 4R. Dash looks good. They didn't fully clip in a couple of different pieces. I just pushed them back in. Took for test drive, no noticeable noises. All dash lights work, etc. Only thing is the key fobs no longer work to lock/unlock the doors. They are aftermarket Viper (w/ Remote Start, which does still work). I left at the dealer. I think they are bringing it to a local shop that does Viper remote starts, etc. Service advisor made it sound like I would need to pay for a new aftermarket module, if it is needed. I made it clear to him that they would be paying for it, if it is needed.

Got my second letter yesterday. Wasn't really waiting on it or anything. Just haven't had time to go in. I have a very small cut/crack on the passenger side. Didn't even noticed it until my mom pointed it out but you cant even see it from the drivers side.

Quick update - I found instructions online to re-learn the Viper remotes. Called the dealer to tell them, but they had already brought to custom shop and had them do it. All is well. Happy to see the new dash now. Looks like a new(er) vehicle. Now I just need to touch up all the stone chips on the front, re-paint the tow hitch, and get some non-corroded wheels. :)

we got a letter last week for my wifes '03 and I ran it by Toyota of Knoxville yesterday. they said it would take about a week to get the dash in and they would call us. Pretty awesome they are doing the right thing about this. I hope I get a letter for mine now!

Also got the second letter here in NC last week. Called yesterday and they said parts had been released for order last week and they had ordered one for me (Had it in for unrelated work last month so they took pictures of the dash then).

I took mine in yesterday after work and after all of the pictures was taken the guy informed me that Toyota only has 2 machines making these dash's and one went down a couple weeks ago, so now they only have one machine running and it would be a very long time until i got my dash. It sounded more to me like they just didn't wanna waste time and money doing the replacement.

I received a letter from Toyota early in the week and visited my local dealer today. The service writer took 5 seconds to look at the dash and placed the order for a new one. He told me 2-3 weeks to receive the part.

Go to another dealership if its convenient and have them order your dash, or go back to the same dealer and have them order it. Then at the least you know its been ordered and all you have to do is wait for it to come in. Shouldn't matter what machines are running or how long its gonna take to come in. I had mine ordered last week I think and wasn't told how long its going to be, could be 2 weeks, could be 4 months and thats fine with me.
