***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

I received a letter from Toyota early in the week and visited my local dealer today. The service writer took 5 seconds to look at the dash and placed the order for a new one. He told me 2-3 weeks to receive the part.

I took mine in too, but did not wait on the 2nd letter. They took 45 min to document, take pictures and ordered dash after that. Same time frame for ETA.

Question on this though, is there anything else they should do when dash is off? Like have anything replaced ahead of time?

Yeah I also wanna know should i have them replace anything while the dash is out, such as the speaker that's in the center of the dash?

Mine has some small short cracks mid dash, along with a smooth sticky spot - doubt if it would qualify. Are there any pictures of minimum qualifying damage ?

I don't think there is any minimum amount of damage. If it is cracked or sticky I believe it automatically qualifies. The cracks in my dash are not severe and I am on a list waiting for parts. It's worth stopping by your dealership to have them take pictures for approval.

Anyone in Florida got theirs replaced? Called Clearwater Toyota last week and they said it'll be a couple more months due to backorder

Mine is being dropped off at the dealership on the Oct. 6th for replacement. I'm in Jacksonville, FL.
The dealership called me about a month ago to schedule this appointment.

Mississippi here. Still haven't received my second letter. Talking to the dealership has proven to be a waste of time and worthless. They basically throw their hands up and don't seem to want to help. "Just call us once you receive the second letter, our hands our tied until then!" Geez. :(

Lol, I'll say it again. I have received exactly 0 letters and my dash is being replaced on Tuesday. All I have is a case #, the dealership did the rest...

Thanks , KOTOC-79!

I needed coolant and an oil filter, so I stopped by today at lunch and asked again. This time they ordered my dash. Craziness. Total 180. Should be here in about a month. WhooHoo!

Visited my dealer over 3 weeks ago, they ordered the part (04005-15135-B1)

Still no update, I called and they're still waiting on the dash allegedly.

Birmingham, AL

Ok, update on my last two posts just above. After feeling pretty confident that they ordered the old dash part number, I called the dealer again. First talked to the service dept, who told me parts dept would not be able to order the wrong part number. They told me to call the parts dept to discuss why that part number was ordered. I hang up and call the parts dept and ask them to pull up the TSB. They pull that up, but also pull up a different document that lists warranty parts replacement (or something like that). This other document has more of the old part numbers and the corresponding new part numbers (04005-14935 for me). So then he said they would order 04005-14935-B1 and I say "NO NO NO, it should be 04005-14935-B0". He says "oh, you're right, B1 is the lighter color". So hopefully 04005-14935-B0 is on order.

So based on my research, I believe the following are the OLD > NEW part number combos:

(standard dash) 55401-35900 or 55401-35908 > 04005-14935
(premium audio) 55401-35901 or 55401-35909 > 04005-15135

-B0 is the darker gray (for dark gray or stone interior)
-B1 is lighter (for fawn interior)

Looking at the parts on the following Toyota parts website was helpful (scroll to Pad Sub-Assy, Instrument Panel Safety section):
2003 Toyota 4Runner Instrument Panel & Glove Compartment

Crap. Did my dealer order the right dash? 04005-15135-B1

I'm unsure which interior I have, but its a 2003 Silver Limited.

This picture looks right:

My dash looks like the exact same color as in your pic. My dealer ordered/installed 04005-14935-B0. I think you want 04005-15135-B0 (for Limited - Premium Audio). I would talk to your service and/or parts department again.

Do I not have the lighter colored interior?

The picture looks like a Stone (light gray) interior? B0 (dark gray) is for Stone (light gray) and Dark Charcoal (Sport Edition) interiors. B1 (fawn) is for Taupe (tan) interiors. This is my understanding, but please confirm with your dealership. I know someone else here said their dealership installed the wrong color dash.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I just purchased my first 4runner a week ago. 05 Sport Edition V8 2WD galactic grey, 110k miles. Timing belt replaced at 98k. After months of researching 4runners, I felt this one was a damn good deal.

It's only flaw, a badly cracked dash, had me wanting to pass on it for a while. I decided I was getting a good deal on everything else, so I decided to just accept the dash and maybe fix it in the future.

Started reading here and found this thread, called Toyota with my vin. I now have a new dash on order!!! My good deal just became great!

Thanks to all involved in this!

Called my dealer service dept. and they insisted the right part was ordered, that they order by the VIN.

Hmmmm

Granted, even in the fawn/tan interior 4Runners, the dash pad is the same color right? Can anyone show a photo that there are indeed multiple shades of black/grey of the dash pad?

Dropped mine off this morning, will post pics and details asap. The service writer told me they should be done by 5:30...
