***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

$1400? Wow. I would have guessed that would be the cost of the whole ac system replacement. I'm not sure I would do it for that. Wonder what it is without them already pulling the dash. $2000?

So I can basically take my used Toyota 4runner to the dealership and say I need the dash replaced... I have 167k miles... Is it warrantied still, it is it just low miles.. mines also a 2003

Got the call that my dash came in. Took the runner down to drop it off and the tech noticed all my added switches and aux stuff (lights, lockers, etc etc). They said it wouldnt be covered by the warranty and that I was looking at at least 2hrs or more of additional time I would be charged because they have to deal with "the unknown". I said I didnt pay anyone to install them and wasnt paying anyone to work around them and said Id reschedule after doing some research. They also said they will not allow me to be involved or assist in any way with the removal or reinstallation of said mods.

Anyone else run into these issues? momo.75

Honestly, its not all that unfair. I used to work at Subaru and modified cars come in all the time for this or that, wanting warranty work. They were charged a little extra time. Sometimes for example, the work was done perfectly fine and causes no extra work. Other times they striped this, zip tied this there...you get the idea. Why should the tech get the same pay for having to do all that extra potential work? If they REALLY wanted to be jerks about it, they could try and say it's been modified and added onto, so it's not covered under the warranty. Best bet is to pay the extra hour or 2, or if they let you take it all out first.

Yes. I have quite a few modifications in mine as well. Unfortunately, they didn't say anything to me about any additional charge until after they had the dash halfway disassembled. Then they called me & said they were going to have to charge me for additional labor or they would have to reassemble everything & I would have to remove all of my mods & then take it back to them again at a later time. They first told me that it would be almost $200 for the extra time they were having to spend on it. I, like you, was caught off guard by it & at first didn't want to pay them a dime. After I thought about things for a while (and considered that I was getting a brand new dashboard out of the deal), I called them back & we agreed on things. I think I ended up paying $100 for the additional labor. Which does suck, but in the end was a lot less headache for me & my new dash looks so much better!

Dash replaced

Ok so im 3 months late posting this but right after Christmas Toyota called saying my dash wash finally in and wanted to make an appointment, They gave me the day of my choosing and had it done the same day looks perfect, no squeaks rattles nothing, you wouldn't know they were even in there other than the brand new dash. Toyota of Wallingford did a great job w no hassles :thanks::cheers:

Looks Great!!

Did they have any issue w/ an after market radio? I was about to have a new radio installed & the installer said i might want to wait until the Dash is replaced, because Toyota might be hesitant to replace the dash w/ an after market radio installed.

They didn't say anything about it, so I assume not.

Update on my ordered dash

Thanks to all those who post on this site! I just registered and thought I would post what my local dealership told me today. I took our 04 Runner in for the dealer to inspect and order on November 3 '15 after receiving the notice of replacement letter. I haven't heard from them until today when I called and asked for an update. I was told they are on backorder and my local dealership had over 100 on order. He said they were' trickling' in, and I would be contacted when it shows up.

Dash fixed

I called my local Toyota dealership and took my wife's 04' T4R in. They looked at the dash and ordered one immediately for us. Free of charge! Very easy to do. Hope this helps anyone.

wondering if my dash will be able to be replaced. I have an 05 limited with no cracking whatsoever. I do see some small areas that have a whitish dried out haze but nothing crazy. if they inspect it will they agree to replace it?

I received the recall letter last year, had Toyota of Huntington Beach (THB) inspect and order dash in Sept or Oct - advised it takes up to 3 month s since factory have to reproduce the dash.

THB called and they installed the new dash last week. THB did a great job on the dash recall replacement! Had a slight fitment problem and burnt out LCD bulb. Brought it back for refitting and trimming (due to the aftermarket radio), bulb replacement, and looking perfect now - all free of charge, "Goodwill." The warranty invoice was about $1280ish with zero balance Free loaner, 2016 Corolla, both times. Kudos to Justin McGuire at THB Service Dept. for the outstanding service.

Got a call on Saturday saying my dash is in. Taking it in in about a half hour or so. :D 2003 Limited located in the midwest and taking it to Toyota of Merrillville.

Dealer just called to say they now have my dashbaord in. Officially ordered 01/05/2016. Scheduled install for tomorrow ::biggrin2:

Fingers crossed, getting a 2016 Tacoma as a loaner

Edit: 2016 Tacoma it is. Not as nice as the the last one they lent me, but still cool
