2003 4Runner Cracked & Sticky Dashboard Still Waiting!

Ordered 2/5/16 - Advisor said "oh, your new dashboard will be in 3 weeks." Sure, it's now 9 weeks and was told, "it's on backorder." I guess because I have a 2003 and high mileage, I probably will never see a new dashboard. That being said, the car otherwise is excellent condition with 260,000. Must be in good shape, the advisor at the dealership wanted to purchase it if I ever sell it.

I've also been waiting since May of last year...they told me the southern region has about 36k dashes on back order. Not sure how others are getting them done in weeks?

wow, 3 weeks they told me minimum 2 months a couple weeks ago

I put in my "order" last Oct. was told at least 2 months. Checked at the dealer a month ago, no updates.

Not a big deal to wait for me. But still kind of annoying.

I've been moving around the country a lot over the passed several years, so I've had the pleasure of watching my dash deteriorate...:jump: Finally settled in Las Vegas now, so decided to take mine in to Centennial Toyota for an evaluation. Well, to say the least, they were pretty shocked at the site, and was guaranteed an approval. I guess now its a waiting game.

I'm disheartened to hear that some are waiting in excess of a year for service. If Toyota plans on screwing us over by waiting for us to sell, total, upgrade, or die, they have another thing coming. I plan on doing none of those things. My truck is in perfect mechanical shape, and aside from the cracked dashboard, the interior far better than you would ever expect from an '03 with 150K miles.

If they have not replaced these dashboards for those with approvals by the cutoff date in 2017, a class action lawsuit should be filed, with a monetary settlement worth the cost of the new dash, or the difference in devaluation of the vehicle because of the cracked dash, that Toyota has taken responsibility for.

I think the cutoff date is the date you need to take it in and get approved for replacement, not the date you need to have your dash installed.

BTW im in Dallas and the whole process took 4 months so I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I did to go one of the smaller Toyota dealerships in the area and not the mega store Toyota of Dallas. My logic being that if they are backordered they would distribute the limited supply out to dealers so that all dealers are getting something. Less people in line mean I should get my dash sooner. Not sure if it was the reality but I figured it was logical enough to try.

About a month ago I got a letter in the mail for an extended warrant from toyota.

I just got my dash replaced on my '04 sport. They warned me it may take a while to get a new batch in but only about 3-4 weeks.

I only had a very small hairline crack over my instrument panel and was afraid they would say it wasn't bad enough but no argument.

I think its pretty awesome they are doing this on 10+ year old vehicles.

Went to the stealership today for spark plugs and remembered to request a dashboard replacement as mine is clearly cracked. 03 4Runner 2/wheel SR5. This is the Round Rock location in Austin Tx. The guy almost beat me to it as if he already knew I wanted a new one. Ordered and will receive in 6months. Lol. Maybe Christmas present? Ha

I've been waiting since December from Charles Maund (I live at 183/Lamar so it's stupidly convenient). I go back next week, and I'll let you know if anything has changed.

New dashboard being installed now

I am new to this forum in the sense that I have not posted anything until now. I have an '04 sport. The forum helped me discover the issue with the dashboards. I ordered it back in November and it just arrived last week. It is at the dealership now being installed. I don't have before photos but if anyone is interested I'd be happy to post pictures of the new dashboard.

Thanks to this forum, I also just got the ball rolling on my dash replacement. Went to a highly recommended dealer actually looking for map light retainer clips and asked about the dash replacement--parts manager just took my VIN and told me they usually come in between 3 and 5 weeks then I can make an appointment for install. Needless to say I'm pretty stoked!

I bought a used 4runner and so far my wait from a claim the previous owner started has been 8 months (claim filed sep. 2015) anyone else having similar times?

I feel slightly guilty revealing this, but this past Saturday I stopped at a dealership in Wichita, KS for some WS fluid and submitted my info for a dash replacement. The parts guy estimated it to be maybe 3-5 weeks for the dash to come in.
I received a phone call from a parts rep Tuesday afternoon--my dash is in.

That's 3 days. I submitted my info on Saturday, it was in on Tuesday. After retrieving my jaw from the floor I asked how it came in so fast and the parts guy told me they had been a bit behind at first while so many people were coming in for their dash replacement, but now they're caught up; thus, much faster turnaround. I'm going to call in the next day or two to set up an installation date.

Had my dash replaced last week. Happy to report it went without a hitch. Took the dealer roughly 5 hours and I have yet to discover any issues.

I asked if they wanted a picture or to see it and the parts guy said they were doing that at first but enough people kept calling in all they did was start taking down the VIN and taking the owner's word for it since it was such a common thing. If you're in the Ozark area (Arkansas? Missouri?), and were willing to take a trip into Brownbackistan...you could call up the dealer (Eddy's Toyota, Wichita, KS) and give them your VIN, then take a little road trip to get it installed. I don't think you're under any obligation to stick with your dealer, especially considering they "hope" for it to come in in another 6 months. I would assume you could just cancel your claim...although since you've already started one it might create problems if you tried to start another, might reject it because your VIN has already been processed. Worth a shot, might talk to your dealer and Eddy's and explain the situation if you're at all interested in a road trip to get it done.

Good News: I took my '04 in, they took a look and say they'll have the new dash to put in later this month.

Bad News: They did the Safe Stop software "upgrade" at the same time they did the inspection. No real harm since I guess since I never power brake, but just another thing I didn't need.

Anyone here from Maryland get a fast repair time? I'm on a 9 month wait started from the previous owner. Seems excessive...

I did not notice anything wrong with my 05 4runner and was surprise when I get the letter form Toyota about dash board warranty being extended.

I looked all around and all was ok, my car was garage kept for almost 8 years and wife take it to work also parked in a in door garage might be the reason why it is still good....

Thanks to people here pushing for the warranty extension which gives me a peace of mind....
