***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

After I got my 4runner back, everything looked great, but turns out the front driver side speakers weren't working anymore. Once I started taking everything apart to fix the speaker issue, I started finding missing bolts and broken plastic, not to mention a smashed RCA cable.

emmwhat,

If you don't mind sharing, which dealer did that to your 4Runner? Hopefully others can avoid going there. I'm in the DC/VA/MD area and haven't gotten any recommendations on a dealer to use for dash replacement.

dealers up here in VA/DC area seem to be 6month wait at least talking to some people around here.

I am also in VA/DC. I spoke with Springfield Toyota and they estimated a couple months to get a 4Runner dash. They said that wait time varies depending on which model car it's for.

Update on my install. Just got it done today. Dropped the car off at 7:00am and they called me around 11:30am saying it was finished. Got the car back at 12pm. It was quick and easy and Customer service was great. Before Leaving I checked if the center console worked and if anything looked broken. The right side of the center console was misaligned with the carpet sticking out a bit but I pushed it in with no hastle. The window had some huge grease marks on it I guess due to taking out the old dash that I later cleaned off. I also found a screw inbetween the driver side seat cushion. I have no idea where it goes but i'll look for it's location later. Otherwise everything else was good.

Dash replacement wasn't perfect but for what they did I'll take it any day so I don't have the carpet dashboard mat anymore. Also I took everything out of the glove box before giving them the car so it would be easier for them and they wouldn't lose anything. Thanks again for this thread!

Hey, new to the forum. I have a 05 T4R SR V6 2WD. My dash has cracks also. Did they do a recall on this? Some people have gotten a letter. I didn't get one. Do I call the dealership up?

Thanks in advance,
-Lynn

I didn't receive a letter either (i'm the 4th owner--bought it at 175,000 miles). I just showed up to a large Toyota dealership, told them I had a dashboard with multiple cracks, gave them my VIN and two weeks later I had my new dash installed. You could probably just call the dealership up and give them your VIN; when I did mine they didn't even look at my dash before ordering the new on--not even a picture. I just told them I had roughly 8 decent sized cracks going across the pass. airbag and one crack going the entire length of the dash, gave them my VIN and was good to go.

Appreciate the response. I'm going to call on Monday. Thanks again!

They told me 4-6 months. They took pictures of my cracked dash and said they'll be ordering me one as long as the manager then Toyota approve.

in CT here, ordered the new dash from Gale Toyota 2 weeks ago, just dropped off the 4Runner this morning and they gave me a loaner corolla for the day.

hopefully all goes well...

I don't get it. People are getting their dashes in weeks and months . My approval was given 3/26/15! It has now been 15 months ! I have called Toyota and they told me to get on the waiting list of bigger dealer. The dealer in a larger city said that woul start me at day one again! My dealer said that is just how long it takes and they assured me I was on the list. This is so frustrating!

Have you considered talking to a larger dealer that can get the dash very fast, and paying their service dept. to ship the dash to the dealer you'll be having it installed at? I'm not sure they would/could do this, simply due to all the corporate strings attached within an extended warranty, but it might be worth a shot?
I went through Eddy's Toyota in Wichita, KS--they had my new dash in less than 4 days. I really can't understand the huge discrepancy in wait-times. A few weeks, sure, maybe even a few months. But 15 months?!? That's just absurd.

I feel ya!

Down here in Pensacola, FL, I'm on an almost 2 year waiting list with my local toyota dealer (Bob Tyler). I will likely be transferred before my spider-webbed dash gets replaced -_-

I'm in Ft Walton Beach FL with smallish dealership. I'd think Pensacola would be considered a large dealership. I called them other day thinking mine was on shelf and they just lost my number. I think we are victim to the SE Toyota Distribution organization who is controlling slow roll on replacement. I asked how I could speed up process - she said call Toyota HQs. I moved from VA to FL and as soon as I got the FL noticed the cracking - so I suspect that high # of cracked dashes to deal with in South. I'd be happy with a Toyota check for $1k and just use a plastic dash cover! If I wait long enough - suspect the airbags will be recalled too.

Has anyone used one of the Coverlay plastic covers in their 03+?

I have an 04 4runner that's not cracking, I live in AZ but have kept it out of the sunlight since I've owned it. But the the dash shows some minor wear at the edges as a result of me playing with the NAV stereo and AUX in.

If so, how's the fitment to the right side of the radio bezel? I guess it's directly to the right of the hazard lights button.

The factory letters went out like May and August of 2015. Dealer is just trying to put you off. If dealer won't set up appointment to look at dash, verify VIN and color then call Toyota HQ or go to another dealer. I got letters and have bad dash cracking issue - and have been waiting over 9 months for the dash part to come in. While I appreciate Toyota offering the extended service campaign - Toyota picked the wrong product and those in moist/hot areas suffered.

Has anyone got their dash and not had Toyota install it? Toyota dealership where I bought my 4runner will not release the dash unless they perform the work. Is this part of the TSB?

almost 10 months now with my claim started by the previous owner. Called both toyota customer service and the dealer today. No luck, just wait. FWIW I do recommend getting a case number from Toyota so they can track things, they do keep records and it helps when calling in so you don't have to repeat the whole situation to a new rep every time.

Just went into my nearby dealership to get it started. It took all of five minutes. He just came out, looked at the dash, wrote down the mileage and VIN, took my info, and said he'd call me in a week or so with more details, and it'd take about 6 weeks for it to come in.

Hopefully it actually comes.
