***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Just went into my nearby dealership to get it started. It took all of five minutes. He just came out, looked at the dash, wrote down the mileage and VIN, took my info, and said he'd call me in a week or so with more details, and it'd take about 6 weeks for it to come in.

Hopefully it actually comes.

Yup. That's exactly how it happened for me.....a year ago!!!!! And still f'n waiting.

Thank you for that info. My dealer referred me to a Toyota USA number where they promptly blew me off the phone and said I had to go through the dealer. Still waiting on reply from them, been busy and have not followed up.

Got mine done last month. Smells like formaldehyde. On a scale of 1-10 of intensity: 7. Smell dissipates over time. When it is warm and the sun hits the dash I can smell it. Not too bad. Done at Tustin Toyota in so cal. My original dash was never cracked or sticky. Toyota tech said I was eligible so I got it done.

Sorry it took so long to respond, been tinkering with some other issues...

I ordered mine through Toyota of Elizabeth City. However, I have a feeling that mine was a fairly early order in the process. As this has gained traction, II have heard of a few other folks told it could be as long as 12 months for the new dash to come in. Hope yours comes in soon, and it gets installed correctly. It does make a world of difference.

How long did it take from the time you first requested they do the replacement to when it was actually finished?

How many miles on the car? Is this being treated as a recall issue?

Mine has a couple of cracks, but it is also attached to a rig with 255K on the clock.

My beloved 2005 Sport has had a gooey, disgusting, sticky, cracked dash for about 4 years already. I hate it. I love my truck to death, and with only 146,000 on the ticker I have no plans to retire it anytime soon. Runs like day one. Was told back when the cracks happened that a dash would be well over $1000, and that it would be ALL on me.

I was planning on getting one of the dash shells to cover it with, but hate that they have the cutout for the airbag on the passenger side. That would mean a giant rectangle of sticky, shiny goo would still show through. Honestly, I can hardly drive it in the daytime because the shine reflects off the windshield making it hard to see. Dash covers are so 1970, but I have even considered that.

Called Toyota today, and they put me on the list at the local dealer! Said it would be 6 months or more for the part to come in. :( If Toyota follows through, though, it will be hard for me to buy any other brand ever.

My Dad talked me into getting a Honda Odyssey for the wife (2 little ones and all), and while I like it, it just doesn't have what my Toyota has. Guess I'm a Toyota fanboi, but I'm so excited at the prospect of having a new dash that I'm looking up leather seat covers for the front buckets (mine are worn out pretty bad) and planning my 20 year anniversary party with this truck for 2025.

Fingers crossed, but a new dash would make me so happy. Weird how the original just melted. I don't even like to touch it. I feel like it's toxic or something.

Just called my dealer. I went in for the inspection last May/June 2015, I forget exactly. They said I'm #25 on the list! If these things are trickling in, it looks like its going to be quite a wait.

This seems odd to me as I had to push the service guy to even look at the dash for the inspection. He said we had to wait for the 2nd letter (which I didn't have at the time) and that they weren't doing inspections yet. But I finally got him to look at the dash and write it up. Maybe he pushed me to the back of the line or something. At the time, I figured I was one of the first at this dealer to get an inspection.

Looking for a 4runner

Ok, so I am looking for a used 04 Toyota 4runner with 113,000 miles, found one today that looks amazing on the exterior and interior. Except for the cracked dash which isn't a deal breaker. I started researching to see how much it would cost to fix and found this. I tried to read through this thread but it is a proper book full of comments.

Do I have to be the original owner of this car to get the warranty done? Or just take it over to the Toyota Dealership and they will look up the VIN and get replacement parts?

You don't need to be the original owner. Just go down to your local dealer and let them know why your there. They should take pictures and order the dash. I was in and out in less then 5 min.

I'm still waiting on mine. Ordered since November. Seems pretty common. Talked to my buddy's at the old Toyota dealer I worked at and they said same thing. Random when they come in. And very few come in at all the last 3 months. And this is a very high volume dealer.
