Well that's awesome, i think that made my decision alot easier. Looks like I am about be a new/used 4runner owner.

Turned 180k on my '05 and the dash cracked on passenger side by vent and came across airbag section. Looks like a call to the dealer this week.
Curious, if I purchased my 4runner used, would Toyota still address it for me? Seems like previous owners did an awesome job servicing the vehicle with over 50 service records throughout its life from 1 dealership... The car had a dash mat and I didn't look under till I already purchased the vehicle and got home. Noticed exactly what some describing. A long crack on passenger side from vent across airbag.

You should be able to as it is all based on the VIN number.

Just got a call from the dealer today letting me know my dash FINALLY arrived. It was ordered back in Oct 2015. Dropping my 4Runner off next Monday to have it installed. Service rep said it took almost a year for his GX470 dash to come in!

Had a voice mail from elizabeth city Toyota that my dash is in after a six month wait. I'm the 3rd owner and all I had to do was call the sevice deptment, took pics of the dash in several spots,pic of the vin, emailed them and was put on the order list. I'll post again after work is finished.

Well...I finally got the call for my dash replacement on Monday, so I scheduled the appointment for Yesterday morning. I went ahead and took out my head unit and all of my accessory wiring Monday night because of the horror stories I've read.
Well, I picked it up yesterday evening about 5ish and the first thing I noticed was my center speaker cover is now cracked. Then driving down the road I noticed my steering wheel is cocked to the right. Well, I figured I'd just go there this morning because their service dept closes at 5, but last night I put my head unit back in and hooked all my wiring back up and now I have zero sound...ugh...My amps have no power. I checked all of my fuses and they're good. The only thing I can think of is that they either cut or pinched my remote wire somewhere.
I'm going back tomorrow morning to get the steering wheel back straight and the center speaker cover replaced, but I'm not letting them touch the wiring.
Just another reason I do my own work on all of my vehicles...

Aside from your time being wasted, toyota will undoubtedly make it right. I might consider finding another dealership to provide the next phase of warranty work. Either way they warranty all parts an labor so if they broke your speaker cover, they'll definitely replace it.
As for the wiring deal, you may have screwed the pooch taking it to them disassembled. They can easily call that your fault now that the sound doesn't work. (obviously you wouldn't break your own stereo) but they can say you did and it becomes your word against theirs.
Hoping for the best for ya, I'm worried about what I'll face when they finally change mine out.

I agree with them making it right. As for the wiring, it'll be just as easy for me to just run a new remote wire, so I'll just take that one as a lesson learned. Plus, I can't really fuss about a broken remote wire when they just replaced my whole dash pad for free!

Man, there are so many horror stories massing in this thread....
I go to the dealer at 6am Thursday AUG 4 for drop off.
I am starting to think I should not do this because of all the screw up stories.
I have some aftermarket lights i put in, but nothing goes through the dash. All the wires are routed under the steering wheel and to the center console buttons.
I do have GROM blue tooth plugged in the back of the radio.... ugh.
Am i going to have issues? Hope not.

okay, so they are done. Turns out the mechanic that did it has done a dozen of these already and he yanked it all out and put the new back in. Even hooked up all my external light switches from the center console. Very pleased. In and out in 2 1/2 hours...
It looks good, just smells funny, like burnt foam funny... Like roll my windows down and ride around funny.
at any rate, very happy... Toyota fan for life... Hoover Toyota did a good job as always. It also helps that one of the mechanics has a 4Runner and knows the vehicle inside and out from taking his apart.
