***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Stopped into the dealer today to have them start the claim they say they'll have someone call me - he calls and says they'll need the vehicle for 4-5 hours??? Is that normal ?

When you say "start the claim", do you mean that they have not yet ordered your part and need 4-5 hours to do the initial inspection? OR do you mean that they have the part and require 4-5 hours for installation?

If it's the initial inspection, it took my local dealership about 15 minutes. Ordering and waiting for the part, however, took 11 months. If they take your truck around back to do the inspection out of your view, tell them NOT to do ANY ECM updates to your vehicle. My local dealership tried and I stopped them. Also, be prepared for them to go down a list of items that they feel should be repaired or replaced on your vehicle.

Received mine back yesterday, left it overnight and it was done by noon dash looks great.

Whole process was about 11 months, took it in and they took photos and ordered the part.

I have been waiting since initially getting a dash ordered in August last year. I've had 2 false starts where they called and booked me in, dropped the vehicle off only for them to call and say the dash wasn't actually there after all. Its now booked in for next week. Third time lucky!

I mean for them to inspect and send pics to Toyota to decide. Kinda feel like they don't want to deal with it so they're inconveniencing me to deter me.

Holy Crap!!!! Got a call yesterday from my local Toyota dealer stating that my new dashboard had finally come in!

What dealership did you use? I see you're in Friendswood (howdy neighbor)
I've been waiting on my dealership in Katy forever. Every time I call they give me the same story that NO dealerships are getting parts. I'm getting a bit discouraged with them...

Called the nearest dealership a couple hours ago. They took my word for it and told me to bring it in immediately because they had one matching dash in stock. Just dropped it off and they're shuttling me back to the office.

NICE.

Got my dashboard. Brought it in August 2015, said they ordered it November 2015, installed it October 2016.

Looks good. Has a tad grayish tint to it. Not the solid black like the old on. Regardless, I'm happy and appears the install went good.

Dealership billed Toyota $1137, parts and labor.

Just started my year long waiting list journey. Taking my '03 Sport, 150k miles in next week for inspection at Manhattan Beach Toyota. Many cracks, started about 2 years ago or so.

I don't have any cracks but there is a pretty big sticky spot in the middle of the dash. It's a bit discolored from all my attempts to soap it out.

I think sticky spot is covered by the warranty but not seen it mentioned in this thread.

All. I just purchased a 2003 SR5 tonight and the dash has several cracks. Am I out of luck because I purchased it used from a dealer? Thanks

I just notice a half inch crack above my center air vents. Crap.

Anybody in the SF/Bay Area that has gone through the process of replacing their dash? Maybe someone can recommend a dealership that is receptive and not as difficult as others had stated on this thread.
Bump. I'm in the bay as well. Love to see what you find out.

Curious..

Just got our 08 a couple weeks ago, and I'm wondering if I should call in and try to have them replace our dash..

It's not cracked, but what if they stop replacing them, and the opportunity to do this expires?

Should I give them a reason to have to replace it?

They base it on the VIN number so you should be fine. I would just call the number from the first post and/or talk to the Service Manager at your local Toyota dealership.

As far as I know it was the earlier years of the 4th gen. Unless you have cracking already they will not start the claim. I am pretty sure yours is fine.

Just took mine to the local dealer and had new dash ordered. They didn't even look at it for cracks, just ordered it. Mine wasn't that bad at all yet but I figured I'd take advantage of this now while they're still doing it.

They don't care where you got the truck from. I got mine from Craigslist and it's had 5 owners. They make pretty good money switching them so they want to do it.

Now that I think about it, hopefully they ordered the right one. Are there only two types, the one with the JBL center speaker and the one without? Or are there slightly different colors too? I'm hoping the new one looks as dark jet black as my current one.
