***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Well dont take your 4runner to Leesburg VA AutoNation Toyota. They cant even manage to work around my remote start so now they're making me pick it back up to 'remove' it before they can finish the install. I doubt I even go back.

I wouldn't act hastily, if you don't go back you be losing the dash replacement that would cost you around $1100 to $1200 if you had to pay for it!!

Im just going to take it to another dealer in my area. Sucks to have to go through the "inspection" process again, but hopefully they don't give me the same run around as AutoNation has.

So I dont have a cracked dash, but I see this warranty period ends this month. Is the repair VIN dependant or only if a crack appears? This just feels like a situation where a crack will appear 3 months from now and out of warranty.

Got the call this morning that my dash was in. Going in tomorrow morning for the replacement. 2 days shy of 2 months. Not too shabby!

Unfortunately the Warranty Enhancement Program for the dash replacement is VIN dependent to verify your vehicle is among the years covered and a USA sold vehicle, there also has to be obvious cracks or sticky areas of the dash, the dealer will inspect the dash and if they find it hasn't any cracks and or sticky areas you will be denied coverage under the program irregardless if it's the correct year models covered.

New record time for waiting

Took truck in Friday April 28th for evaluation and start of work Oder for dash while doing the airbag recall, got a call that the dash was in get this... Tuesday May 2nd. Just took it in Friday and picked it up yesterday. Pretty happy overall, I asked that they take their time to do it right and I'm not in any hurry to get it back and so far it seems like they did a good job aligning stuff. I'm quite particular so I will notice unfortunately.

On a related note has anyone found a way to get the color a little darker?

Dropped mine off this morning to get my new dash after 2 months of waiting. Got a call 3 hours later saying I had to pay $136 for them to workaround my head unit (Pioneer 4800bs) which nothing was said about when I did the claim or dropped it off. They also did a "free" inspection and tried to say my rotors and pads were too small and are safety risk. They asked if I wanted to have them fix it for $900 and of course I told them not to touch a thing. I think they were just trying to get money out of me on this one as I could've easily removed my head unit and my pads are rotors were installed by myself and a family friend who's a Toyota certified master mechanic. Gonna try and see about getting that fee reduced when I go to pick it up later today. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

I ended up getting it dropped to $70 but checkered Flag it turns out is known for having certain techs that try to take advantage of people which I wasn't aware of till after I had dropped it off. He tried to say one of my rotors was too small and had to be replaced (they were brand new painted rotors and ceramic pads) for $600 so needless to say never going there if I ever have to have a recall or anything like that done

I have come to think it must be the actual tech that rises the issues with aftermarket item/s and Mods, if the tech doesn't say anything and just does the replacement I'm sure the Dealership isn't going to say anything about aftermarket items, that being said if the aftermarket item/s and or Mods causes the tech to spend more time doing the removal and install I can't blame the tech for bringing it up to his bosses, after all these techs do work on commission and time loss is a money loss for them.

I'm sure there are a few bad apples in the Dealership/tech world and these techs will stretch the truth a bit to get more higher dollar work when a vehicle comes in.

I used to take my 4runner for service back in 2009 to fordham toyota in NYC. my brake pedal was very low, I drop it at a shop near my job the owner who worked on my car is very honest and reliable told me that one of my rotor was smaller than the rest, he show it to me and the pad which was half done on the metal and the other half was full cause it wasn't touch the rotor. I made fordham toyota replace both front rotor. and never went back there again. I don't thrust toyota tech anymore.

New Dash on Order

I went in yesterday morning to Brent Brown Toyota located in Orem UT. Met with a nice lady named kasandra. Inspection passed and they ordered the new dash. Sounds like a waiting game from here on out! Hope it gets here quick...

Also came in today at Roseville Toyota in NorCal. Super nice lady at the desk put in the order! She told me another 4runner in the area just got theirs done as well. Time to wait I guess lol:becky:

Approved over the phone by VIN - No Inspection?

I called my dealer and gave them the VIN. They confirmed that it was covered over the phone - ordered the dash without asking me to come in. Anyone else have that experience?

I'm a little concerned that there's not a paper trail saying I beat the warranty expiration. FWIW, she said they are getting them in pretty quickly these days when asked about timing.

Before this afternoon I would have thought that was unusual. But I took my truck in today to start the dash replacement process. The certified tech came in and looked at it and said, "yep, we'll get you one on order." Didn't take any pictures. They had me sign a paper to prove I "beat the warranty period" though.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to stop before the end of the month to be on the safe side. I would've never known it was covered if it weren't for this forum. So thanks to all. I'll post a report when it's installed. Cheers!
