***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

Does anyone get aggressive "new car" odor from the new dashboard?

Mine is pretty much odor free, no discernible difference from before and after it was replaced.

That being said a few other have reported their new dash having an odor, some say it's unpleasant and then others just say it smells like new vinyl.

I just looked and noticed a couple of hairline cracks starting. Afriad it will get much worse.

My luck it looks like I just missed the deadline to file a claim by 21 days. Never received a letter from toyota and we are original owners.

2003 spot, 80K miles called toyota but no help.

Wouldn't hurt to go by a dealership and play stupid about the deadline.

Join the class action suit talked about above.

Missed It

Well I guess i messed the replacement deadline. I did not know anything about it. I didn't get a letter and I did not pay attention to the forums. I guess I am just S out of luck.

Wow this site is great. However, I am sad to learn about this here. I am talking to Toyota and it was noted that if enough people call in that it is possible that they will do an extension but nothing is processed. I will post my case number here and we can keep a count of those that call in for this known issue

Case number: 1706233067

I might be one of the luckiest people on this thread. Took mine to West Coast Toyota in Long Beach on a Friday April 28th. They browsed it and immediately filled out the paperwork for the replacement saying it would take 1-3weeks to get the dash. They called on my way home saying they had one in stock and it was installed that Monday May 1st... Looks great, and together with a recently completed head gasket repair, new tires and new brakes (incl LF caliper replacement) the old donkey is driving like it has a fraction of its current mileage. Onward to 200k!

Hello Everyone,
In May of 2016, Toyota sent me a dashboard defect notice that was covered under my extended warranty. In June of 2016, my dealership opened a claim and I was told the wait time is at least 9 months. Since I haven't heard from my dealership in over a year, I went there last Friday to check on the status of the claim. Well, according to them, they've had my dash in the parts department for at least 2 months in which I was never notified. Now, I'm past my extended warranty, they actually tried to have me pay for it. After a brief argument, my dealership will be installing the new dashboard next Monday FREE OF CHARGE.
Hopefully, my claim will be rectified, completed and closed by next Tuesday. If anyone would like me to forward ALL of my paperwork (from start to finish) let me know.

Bought our 2004 4runner used from Carmax. I was surprised that the replacement program from Toyota covered the cracked dash. It took 13 months. But, it does look good.

I'll give them a call. Unfortunately I started noticing a bunch of cracks AFTER the deadline passed. Should have done it from the beginning.

Didnt know this is an Ongoing issue for some..here

Hey folks,
I recently bought this 2004 4runner & really love this truck, i did notice the single long line of crack at the top of glove box that was hidden with a non slip mat. Now from this thread i see some others have same issue that Toyota is to blame for. Am i still good to call and register the case.?

Sorry, but you've missed the deadline, it was May 31, 2017.

That being said many who were unaware and missed out are trying to do a Class Action Lawsuit, I think someone posted something
about it in this topic or one of the other dash topics.

I just bought my 05 a few weeks ago. Just noticed a small hairline crack on drivers side. Only crack that I can fine. What would be recommended to keep it from spreading? I dont mind the crack since I am out of the warranty I just dont want more to form and for this one to spread.

Update: I ended up using a little CA glue on the crack and I ordered a coverking sun shade. It is much more noticeable withe the glue but I now have piece of mind that it wont continue to spread.

cracked dash

I am not having any luck with my dealer to even look at it. I have been in contact with Toyota SE and the rep there tells me to take it in for evaluation. I get there and the service writers look at it and say, "Not warranty" and that's it. Service manager there will not return calls, or their recall manager. Any words of wisdom?

Well... the Enhanced Warranty period ended on May 31th 2017, so that maybe your issue,
But if Toyota is telling you to take it in for evaluation and your dash is indeed cracked(?)
and the dealer you're taking it to is not doing the right thing then I would suggest taking it to another dealer!

Your T4R is either a 2003, 2004 or 2005 correct?

If not one of those year models that is an issue as well since no other year models were included in
the Enhanced Warranty Program.
