Cracked Rear Lower Shock Mount

This is beyond me guys. Installed OEM shocks less than 3000 miles ago and checked underneath the 4Runner today to look at the bushings I've been meaning to install and low and behold the lower shock eyes are cracked on both sides.

I can't believe this. They were flawless when I installed them. I haven't done any off-road craziness with them installed -just pavement with the rare unpaved road, but nothing where I had to engage 4WD and crawl or anything like that.

What happened guys? This is absolute bologna.

The only thing I can think of is the old worn out bushings you put back into the new shocks allowed an abnormal amount of stress on the shock eyes. The bushings maybe act like a shock absorber themselves buffering the thousands of cycles of the shock absorber compressing and elongating as you're driving down the road.

But, with that said, I'd see if you can get the seller to warranty these shocks. Even with worn out bushings, you'd think they wouldn't crack that fast. Just don't admit you have worn out bushings.
 
I was thinking along those same lines. Stupid of me to wreck perfectly good shocks with 10$ worth of worn out parts.

I ordered them straight from Camelback Toyota and really hope for the best. Although I project they'll say there are too many variables to account for as far as install and use for them to help me out. Major bummer.

Hey Matt,

Call Camelback and ask to talk to Amanda. She's really nice and helpful. Hopefully she can hook you up with a new set of rear shocks.
 
Get new bushings on there, and then take pics to show the dealer [emoji23]
I only say that because I don't really think it was the worn bushings that caused the crack. Were your old shocks cracked there? If not, how can they say it was the worn bushings that caused it? The old shocks didn't crack with the bushings being worn for 100k miles, but the bushings wore out *just enough* in the last 3k miles to crack the new shocks? I don't buy it.
Obviously the bushings are shot, but I believe the shocks were defective. Just my opinion, of course.
 
Right on guys thank you for the feedback. I just contacted Camelback Toyota so we'll see what happens.

Also, when I first received the shocks one of them was already seeping oil. They replaced it, but still, it doesn't give the buyer very much confidence receiving a part that could already be considered past its service life by a lot of people's standards

Crossing my fingers I didn't throw money down the drain
