i have a 1995 4runner and the motor is about shot. i would like to get a new crate motor and do a swap. i was wondering if someone could let me know were the best place to buy a 22re would be. i live in Alaska so i know i will have to pay for some shipping but i want to know were i can get the highest quality motor. if anyone has any advice on what places to stay away from that would be great. i also have seen some 22re motors that are sold will a little more hp (125) and wanted to know about the reliability of that size and setup. thanks for any feedback you may have. - carson

I've been very happy with my DOA Racing 22RE. You might also try LC Engineering. You hear the occasional complaint about both but for the most part everyone seems pretty satisfied with either. If you didn't want to spend that much money then I would suggest you just have the bottom end rebuilt and install a new top end. Ted at Engnbldr.com can help you out with both (as can DOA and LC Engineering).

I think a stock 22RE, EFI in 1985 was advertised at 114 HP. The "stock" engine that DOA sells is the one advertised at 130 HP. For $600 more you get a polished and ported head, oversized valves, etc. which is supposed to deliver around 150 HP. That's the engine that I went with as I figured if I was going to go to the trouble to change the engine then I wanted as much HP as I could reasonably get without affecting the reliance.

Good luck with your search.

has anyone had any experiance with enginesus.com or toyotacarpart.com? i was wondering if anyone has had any bad experiance with them, thanks -carson
