Crawl Control is pure magic

Crawl Control saved me big time this past weekend. I'd like to hear others that crawl control has saved them in a bad situation.

My situation was in a waist deep mud hole on a trail a long way from any form a help and no cell or radio signal. I drove into the mudhole pretty cautiously but right in the middle a washout had formed sucking the 4runner all the way down to the top of the front wheel wells in mud. I had never used crawl control before soI didnt engage it at first. I was already locked in the rear, so I turned a-trac on and started to try and reverse, going nowhere. I decided to just try crawl control, I turned it on an after a minute of banging and clanging it working the 4runner started to slowly move backwards. Mind blown.

Who else has stories to tell?

I used it this past winter. Had to travel down a steep, icy back woods road... Riding the brakes would have ended in disaster no doubt. I engaged crawl control and the 4runner danced down that hill like it was a dry dirt road.

Nice to hear of your good experience!

I have not tried the crawl control on my 4Runner yet, as I have not gotten it off the road yet.

I had a similar situation in mud with my FJ Cruiser last year. I pulled to the side of a lane and a half wide road to let an oncoming car pass, and the shoulder was soft mud. When I started forward (in 4hi) with the passenger side in the muddy shoulder and drivers side on the road, the soft muddy shoulder (about 6 inches of mud, which quickly clogged the tire treads) sucked me off the road. I put it in 4lo (as I temporarily forgot about atrac and the rear locker) and could not get back on the road. Eventually I remembered the atrac and engaged that. The atrac worked to get me out of that situation and I could hear it engaging.

I realize this is not the same situation as yours, but wanted to relate my experience.

I was going uphill with uneven moguls so deep I was bottomed out even with a 3 inch lift. It was a very narrow trail with very few approach angles and nothing worked. I started to dig and remembered about the "fancy dials" that were my crawl control. I even noticed a "Mogul" mode to which I smacked my head and engaged. Was well on my way in seconds. :)

Long story short, I now have a full aluminum bumper and winch ...

this past winter i went out to go play around in an area untouched for a few weeks with multiple heavy snow days. the trail was about a foot and a half of untouched snow, 4lo locked and my ko2's i made my way up (this thing is a tank by the way) higher into an open field area. to which i sunk down halfway up the doors in deep snow. locker, a-trac weren't budging me. tried out the crawl control and it slowly backed me out after a min or 2.

This fantastic tech is the reason I went with the off-road trim! Can't imagine the stress in these situations above!

Crawl control and terrain select are great technologies for sure. I'm always amazed when I read posts on this forum about how Toyota isn't keeping up with other manufacturers in terms of technology. I disagree. Toyota is putting the tech where we want it. I don't need buzzers and lights that tell me when I'm changing lanes and other assorted nonsense.

"Call control" is that something to prevent you from calling an ex after a heavy night of drinking? That must be what that SOS button does!!!

I'm a bigger fan of ATRAC and the rear locker than CC, but it's good to hear people use it.

I haven't touched it in my 2 years of having it, fwiw.

I've never used Crawl Control or MTS, but I have used A-TRAC and find that to be magical.

At 0:30 in the video below, there are some pretty large moguls. 4H, 4L, 4L+rear locked is a bad time going over those. Very jerky and lots of pedal needed to power over. The video is my third time going over them and I used A-TRAC and it was nice and smooth. Without A-TRAC, the wheel in the air would spin and spin while the wheel on the ground struggled to put down enough torque to move me forward.
