Crazy good gas mileage tonight

Summer gas is here.
Just rolled 171,000 miles on my 2005 V6 and took it easy on my 40 mile round trip up a 50mph road. It is a commute I take a few times a week but this is the best the gauge has ever read.
The gauge was at 27.2 until the last 1/2 mile up a huge hill to my condo. I'd hypermile more often but it is annoying even to me to accelerate so slowly.
Yea I know it is 2 mpg off but that's not shabby.

That mileage has nothing to do with summer gas or whatever. It has everything to do with those cool blue lights.

Lol. That's as dim as my aftermarket radio gets. I can't stand it. I can change the colors but it is still super bright

Is 26 mpg average really that good for the V6? IF so, then I'm living right, cause my V6 display reports 33.4 mpg.

OPPS.... That's 23.4 mpg.

how accurate is the mpg gauge really? i see them all over the place...

the v6 4runner is rated at like 16city/21highway. has anyone actually tested mpg accurately with miles/gallons equation? highly unlikely anyone is getting 27.2 or 33.4 out of a 4th gen v6.

I log every tank of gas and maintenance item with Fuelly. My avg is 18.3, but have been getting around 17.5 with a roof basket installed, and maybe winter gas. That’s a mix of freeway and city, living in a very hilly area. 21.4 was all freeway. On older 4runners I’ve broken 22mpg, but don’t think I’ve ever seen 23+.

33mpg is incorrect for the 1GR-FE engine.

27mpg seems high but if hypermiling it might be possible.

I consider the fuel economy display to be fairly accurate. I hand measured my VW Touareg diesel many times, and compared it with the on board display, and it was always within 1mpg or less of my hand calculation.

I am getting 20-21mpg in mixed driving with one person in the vehicle on my V6 1GR-FE.

Mid teens around town to low-mid 20s on the highway is about typical for the 4.0L V6.

'04 w/V6, 230,000 miles, major engine renovation ~2K miles ago (blown head gasket, had lots of stuff done as long as the engine was apart), generally saw the same mileage as you but within the last 6 months MPG's been decreasing. Not sure if engine rebuild messed something up

It could be that it's the "winter" gas that dropped your mileage.

i have a gas station that i fill up at regularly on my way home and i get on the freeway for about 8 miles right away. full tanks always read super high like that and then dwindle when i exit and drive the windy road home.

Tank ended just at 24.0 on the gauge. I have way too many hills where I live. Still it indicated 3mpg better than normal due to the effort of accelerating slowly.
