Creaking front suspension..

Ok guys.. Put in new Icon suspension and about 25 miles later it started creaking and squeaking.. I greased the upper control arms which helped alot, but then it came back. I greased them again tonight and so far so good. Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? Long story short, the shocks were rebuilt by Icon after they both went out within 1000 miles.

Thoughts would be appreciated..

Are you running the ICON upper arms or stock? If it's the ICONs the uniball on my old arms were always making noise until I took the cover off. Be sure to clean them and lube them.

Also you can check the lower shock mount. That was another spot of noise for me. Make sure those bearings are lubed also.
 
Seems as though it's the shock itself. As it's compressing down the cylinder, the gasket? is squeaking on the cylindar. I guess the gasket is rubber and it's dry rubber on metal.. So, looks like another rebuild.. I'm hoping ICON will just replace them and not make me go through the rebuild again..
 
Try shooting a little WD-40 on the shaft of the shock to see if that takes care of the noise and for how long. Not necessarily a permanent fix but it could give you some answers.

[MENTION=141029]mosovich[/MENTION] , did you ever find the exact source of the noise and what your fix was? I am having the same noise since my Icon Stage 2 install. It is definitely a creaking noise in my case.

I got some spray lithium grease and sprayed it on the shafts up under the boots.. Seemed to work..

are you 100% sure it's the suspension and not the hinge of the hood? This thread pops up every 2 weeks or so and it ends up always being the hinge of the front hood.
 
May be advisable to check with Icon on whether or not you should be lubing the shafts and which products they recommend. I use silicone based spray on the exterior of shock body's as a corrosion preventative but not on the actual shafts, I'd be concerned about grease developing grime and accelerating internal breakdown of the shock. Most uniballs require a teflon based lube like Triflow, but not usually right out of the box.

For relatively new parts you all shouldn't be having any major problems. There will be some noise associated with coilovers and aftermarket uca's but nothing obscene. I'd put money on uca bushings. With the truck on the ground loosen the uca nuts before greasing to make sure you're not damaging your bushings. Idk about Icon but Total Chaos recommends teflon based grease like Superlube.

Just installed my icon stage 2's. I hear creeking when I turn. Doesn't drive me nuts. I'd just like to know it's normal I suppose.
 
If you both installed UCA’s it could also be the UCA’s weren’t packed correctly with the grease they’re supposed to have when being assembled. Where it attaches by the shock tower.

My TC lowers are super noisy because I think they weren’t packed right. Squeezed a ton of grease into the zerks and it’s quiet now.

Just another thing to check.
