Creaking noise from the undercarriage

The creaking noise I have is coming from what looks like a protective covering around the gas tank(I am not sure what this part is called). This protective covering, we will call it, around the gas tank is on the drivers side and runs to the rear axle. It looks as though it has been hit many times by ice from the road, therefore bending it up to the gas tank and making it rub/creak when the body rolls.

Is this a problem anyone has experienced? Do I need this protective covering? If so, shoud I take it off and mend the metal back to its original form or is there a better solution or another part that would serve a better purpose?

The protective covering should be a skid plate (what year is your T4R?) and you could probably repair it pretty easy or replace it for a resonable cost.

If this plastic sheild covers just the entire gas tank, I believe it's the gas tank skid plate.
