crmartin9, Question about Compass mirror

I noticed that you have a Homelink/Auto Dimming/Compass mirror for your truck. Was it easy to install? Is it just one wiring harness that plugs into a factory port in the 4Runner? Please let me know. I think I'm going to go with the same mirror for my 2003 Sport.

Thanks!

Installation is almost exactly the same as the standard autodim mirror - there's only one harness with three wires. One ground, one wire for the mirror and compass that you connect to a fuse or wire that goes live with the ignition, and one wire for the homelink that you can connect to an always live power connection. I chose to connect my Homelink wire to the mirror/compass wire so the Homelink will only work if the key is in Acc or On. (That way no one can break into my truck and open my garage door and also break into the house.)

When I installed the mirror, I used the installation instructions that Woody posted in an earlier thread on this forum. I did exactly the same as these instructions, except I has one more power cable from the Homelink to connect. Hopefully, this link works:

I even went out and bought a remote keyless entry deadbolt for the house to use up the extra buttons. That's been a lifesaver this winter since I don't have to stand outside the house fumbling for keys. (Only tricky thing with the Kwikset locks is that you press and release the Homelink key to lock and have press and hold for a second or two to unlock.)

Hope that answers your questions (and probably then some)...
