Cross over pipe mods

Has anyone done a mod to a 3.0 and move the crossover pipe away from the rear of the head? I am not looking for loud, just a functional way to keep the heat off the back of the head.

I am looking at using 2.25 or 2.5" pipe that I can cut and weld into a y pipe to the cat.

If you have pics, that would also help

One of the better ways to remove the cross over pipe is to install a set of headers (NWOR or the like). Unfortunately, the choices are quite slim for the 3.0. A set of NWOR headers is one of my next mods to our 4runner.

The most economical way to do it is to get an extra passenger side header, flip it and replace the driver side header with it and then get a local shop to plumb in back in before the cat. Haven't done it yet but its on the list if i decide to keep with the 3.0.

I'm not quite understanding how this would help fix the issue on the passenger side. The header itself crushes the head gasket.

This is the only solution that I have come up with, but headers were ~$800.

I only use the 4runner for the winter months and I am having a hard time spending $1200 for an exhaust system.

Looking at it today, I am considering the header option but really would like to find a less expensive way.

I am definitely going to find a way to get this done.:ybrick:

By the time I buy the Y-pipe to work with our auto trans, the price quote for the headers was just over $1000.00. Pricey, no doubt, but I'd rather spend that money on a solution to fix the design flaw , then put towards a head gasket repair(and not fixing the fundamental problem). At least the header will increase mpg,power, reduce the heat at the heads, and better the future value of the vehicle. No affiliation here.
It is too bad there are not better, or less costly choices out there. I can tell you, I don't look forward to installing those. Replacing motor mounts was a bear of a job.

only thing i did to mine was when i redid my head gasket, since the cross over was out, i just used exhaust heat wrap around the pipe. not as perminant or as good as the aftermarket headers previously mentioned, but its suitible and for a daily driver it should work fine and won't break the bank. good luck.
