Crowbar used to break in truck - $2K+ damage

My reward for working late a few weeks ago was to find out someone used a crowbar to break into my truck. Apparently the person gave up and settled for smashing the window and stealing my iPod, Satellite radio, and radar detector. (All of the was out of sight except the satellite radio, which was $30, and I thought no one would want to steal.

This is a picture of where the damage to the driver's side: now that the repair has been made by the body shop does anyone know how I can safely remove the black plastic cover (near the B pillar) to make sure they really repaired the metal underneath?

This pic was taken after the glass was repaired but before the body work was done.

I'm kind of paranoid and ended up taking the inside of the door apart to make sure all the glass shards were cleaned out....

Here's a list of the damage:
- driver's side door frame damaged
- interior door panel scratched up and had to be replaced
- black plastic covers on window frames on both doors had to be replaced
- both the driver's side doors had to be repainted
- window replaced

Sorry man... I worry about my 4runner and my Sound system all the time in my apartment complex. Its a nice complex, but still, I wonder if any kid that isnt old enough to drive has the understanding of what it means to violate someones car?! especially once they have put their own, time, blood and money into it! Hopefully, you can catch the people who did this. People just dont have any respect anymore!

Thanks for the co-miseration - I was was parking at the Diversy Marina near Lakeshore Dr./Lake Michigan. I liked watching boats launch from the ramp but now I hide my truck in the parking garage.

First, sorry to hear about the OP's misfortune. I hope they fixed everything.

Regarding Shipoopi's comment, about 25 years ago I was temporarlily living in an apartment in the city here, and all I had was on-street parking.

To discourage scumbags, I had attached razor blades & sewing needles to the rear of the stereo unit in the car I was driving so that anyone who grabbed the back of the unit by reaching under the dash (easiest access in that make/model) without knowledge would get an unpleasant surprise. They didn't stick out enough to sever a finger, but it would be discourage all but the most serious intruder.

I also had labels on the inside of the windows, visible to the outside stating "Anti-theft measures used in this vehicle may be hazardous to your health."

And yes, it took about 2 months, but one time I did go out to find evidence of forced entry, and blood mixed in with the mud, snow, & slop on the floor mats (winter floor mats). The stereo was still there, though.

I also had the stereo equipment at this location rigged to deliver a 117 V shock to anyone who grabbed it's metal chassis without turning a hidden switch in a closet behind where it was located off first.

They way I look at it, if you're trying to rip me off, you deserve whatever I can do to you.

I wasn't going off when I got to the truck, but the break-in happened between 7:30A-8:30P, so chances are it reset. Luckily I got out there just as it started to rain and took garbage bags and surgical tape to make a make-shift window.
