Cruise Control Problem(s)

Hey guys - my cruise control lights up but doesn't engage. After doing some research I think it might be my cruise control ECU. It may have been submerged, and no longer functional.

Do any of you have the ECU from a 1993 (92-95) that your willing to part with? The ECU is located behind the driver's side kick panel.

I'm going to start with this, and see if that takes care of the problem.

Also - where is the sending unit located? Near or on the transmission? I had big chunks of ice up underneath that area, and that could be the problem also.

Looking for input from the T4R geniuses.

H'mm, since no T4R genius has chimed in, I'll take a shot.
There is no specific sending unit for the CC, the ECM uses signals from multiple vehicle sensors (some shared with the EFI ECM).
The fact that the CC light illuminates when you set it kinda says things are working.
The first thing to check would be the actuator, which utilizes engine vacuum.
The actuator is located adjacent to the brake booster/MC. It has a vac hose going to it and a cable that goes over to the throttle linkage on the TB.

That was my first guess also. Tomorrows going to be another warm day here in WV so I'll double check it - one of the vac lines may be loose. I'll pull off each vac line, and blow some canned air through them. Might be some crap got stuck in there, and isn't producing enough suction.

Check for vac at the vacuum hose., and if you have a vacuum pump hook that to the actuator and see if the cable to the throttle body linkage moves.
Let me know how it goes.

Replaced all the vacuum hoses I could find, and the CC is much better. Still releasing as if the brakes are being tapped, but 'Resume' takes it back up to speed.

When the weather gets better (rain, and strong winds right now) I'm going to check some other easy to fix items.

I also have a problem with my cruise control. Everything works fine until I hit the brake and either slow down or come to a stop. Then when I hit the resume nothing happens, I have to reset the cruise control. Anybody have any ideas on what I need to do?

Since everything else works, it could be the switch or ECM, and will be harder to troubleshoot w/o replacing things.

I don't know why, but after I replace the Throttle Position Sensor the Cruise Control is back to normals ops.

Next on the must do list - Dash Pot, and Fan Clutch. Fun fun - the hits never stop on our old 4Runners...LOL!

Today I replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Thank goodness for the Service Manual!
