Hey Runners, my cruise is sucky! Help me fix it? When I set the cruise in my 98 it works normally as long as the driving is level. When I get on any sort of hill it immediately downshifts, even if the hill is minor. If the hill is of medium steepness then it shifts WAAAAY down to super-fast-haulin-a$$ mode when it doesn't need to. Worst of all, when it shifts all the way down it will NOT shift back to overdrive, it sticks in super-fast mode. Now every time I am in a situation where the trucks down shifts, if I turn off the cruise I can drive normally and the truck doesn't need to downshift to overcome these molehills. Any help dudes? :witch:

i haven't used mine in a long time, but yeah, if i remember right mine does this too. im not sure if it was as intense as yours though. i do rememebr it does stay in the passing gear for a little bit when i make it to the top. it sounds like its fine maybe someone else will chime in?

Hmmm....my '95 T100 did that a lot. I replaced the multifunction switch in the steering column ( cruise, signals, wipers, etc...) that fixed my problem.
My main problem was with the washer & intermittant wiper not working, so the cruise fix was a bonus.

Ideas off the cuff: Could be slack in the cc cable to the throttle body. Could be a sticky TB mechanism where the cc cable connects. Could also possibly be a vacuum issue in the cc unit.

Haha Why yes I do. Just went on a cross-state camping trip with a bunch of highway driving. I'm not sure if you've heard this but it's quite flat here, so cruise is nice :bravo:
And to flyfisher I will check those things and report back, I checked the cruise cable before and it didn't help but try, try again.

I was kidding, I am usually in stop and go traffic so not much opportunity to use the cruise control. Hopefully someone can help you get it fixed.
