Ever had sticker shock? I just paid $1.50 plus tax for a crush washer for my weekend oil change. Anyone got a source for crush washers? I get the idea you should change it every oil change.

Buy your oil filters from your Toyota dealer. At a dealership near my house, they only charge $6.00 for the filter and include the washer with the filter.

That's customer service. The dealers around here don't do that. If you are not paying them, they can't hear you. And I us an M1 filter, not the Toyota one.

I guess the answer is to go hunting on the Internet....

No, I mean to go to the parts desk at your dealership.

The dealerships always have a parts desk where you can buy parts. Ask for an oil filter and they'll probably include the washer too.

But that's only if you will use the Toyota oil filters though... If you like the Mobil 1, then I guess you have to buy the washers somewhere.

BTW, the washers are not really crush washers. They can be reused. I have about 50 of them in my toolbox though.....

I bought an oem filter for 5 bucks and the parts guy threw in the washer, but really its only 1.50.......

I purchased two gallons of antifreeze, two oil filters, and five qts of AFT. When the Toyota parts dude filled my box of goodies, he then tossed in a fiber washer and said to me, “you’ll need one of these”. After spending $ 80 on parts, I thought he was being nice and that I was receiving the washer free. When I got home I noticed that I was charged $ 1.95 for that fiber thing. Returning it would require burning as much fuel as my refund, so I kept it. I actually prefer the fiber washers to the metal cut-rings. I purchase twenty of them on the Web for $ 0.95/ea

Did my first oil change today (1500 mi).

Fiber washer stayed on the pan and I left it there. BTW it is 12 mm diameter on the inside diameter.

Still looking for the transmission dip stick...

The factory original oil filter was number
90915-20004

the dealer sold me one with this part number
90915-YYZD3

they look a little different when looking at the end that screws on

I've got a bunch of these from my days in the pipeline business. Mine are all too big, a half inch'er should be just right for our 4runners.

I notice lots of places on the web sell them including racing / performance auto parts sites. Prices vary from $1.20 to over $7.00.

Think I'll try to find a local place and buy a couple. Hate to mail order a few one dollar parts.
