Culp Valley Road

Looking for any firsthand experience with this road located west of borrego springs and east of ranchita. Will be camping with the family at the culp valley primitive sites to escape the heat of the valley floor, noticed this short road and only found a few "trip reports" without much detail of when the trail starts/ends

Its fine in a Jetta (with a little care around rocks and ruts). Any 4Runner (2wd or otherwise should be fine). The road to the trail head for Pena springs need a bit of clearance (2wd should be fine also). This is for the culp valley camp on the north side of s22/Montezuma valley road. South side of s22 I don't know.

South side of s22 is where info is hard to come by. Looking at satellite images it looks like i can put a run togther from s22 at old culp valley road and take it all the way to grapvine canyon road then ending at yaqui pass road near 78 and s3 intersection

don't know how crowded it gets. i haven't camped there. (i have driven in to the culp valley camp before (before getting a 4runner) and have done the little walk (was looking for star trail photo locations)) that ends in an overlook (view of borrego springs). I think there is pretty much always someone there camping though and probably more on weekends.

I have done this exact run, but in reverse order, going from Yaqui to Culp Valley.

Shortly after leaving Culp Valley Camp, headed towards Borrego Springs, you will come upon a strong S curve in the road, shortly after it straightens out, the trail access will be on your right.

This will take you on an easy trail to the edge of the Ranchita neighborhood, go left (Wilson Road and Old Wilson Road), take it all the way down and you will intersect Grapevine Cyn, go left to head to Yaqui Well.

Easy fun road, plenty of sights to see, including native morteros and grindings right along the road, as well as the Angeline(?) Spring along Grapevine.

Thanks for the info, how long did it take you to make it all the way up. Looks like a good distance i estimated a 2 hours from the map

Sounds like a safe guess. It's not a long or strenuous route.
