OK, here's something that may have helped. I took the little "wing" section apart & scuffed-up the friction surfaces with sandpaper. Not too much - just enough to get the shine off them, so they won't move quite as easily.

I'll test it over the next couple days & report back.

It does seem to have helped - the wings don't move as easily. I may try something else to firm them up more. Stay tuned.

Seriously though, while I appreciate the limited amount of effort involved I'm looking for something a bit more ingenious and lot less of a hack. Something that is essentially an adapter and extender.... so it fits perfectly in the existing cup holder, extends upwards a little bit and has a smaller inside diameter.

Yeah I'm a bit of a coffee snob in that I basically have 2 coffee cups I use exclusively due to the fact they are super insulated. They both will keep a cup of coffee hot for a couple of hours at least. One is a 10oz Thermos and the other is a 20oz REI (made by Stanley). The 20oz is my go to cup and it flops around in that front cup holder like nobody's business. I'm thinking about constructing something myself.... but not sure what to make the damn thing out of.

Here is what I did for my Venti sized coffee cup.

Set you next coffe cup on top of three bounty paper towels. Wrap the towels up and set the cup and towels into the cup holder set in the middle position with the little arm extended into the holder area. The towels will make a little nest to hold your cup upright and your coffee a lot warmer. Problem solved.

Ancient post. Cleaning reusable cups is a PITA, so I get my coffee and green stopper, drink, then throw.

The center of the cup holder adjusts left and right too, making bigger and smaller cup holders.

i was thinking about how to fix this today. I might try to make a mold of the cup holder and make a plastic insert that fits a can/smaller cup

OK, the easy way might be florist foam. Cheap, cuts easily and holds shape.

That is if you use the same shape cup each time.

Best would be to buy a cup that fits the holder.

Sam's Club and Costco have great hot drink cups and lids. Huge packs for small money. Drink & throw away.

This was the missing key for me. I didn't realize there were arms in the existing adjuster that swung out towards the cup. I did that this morning and during my 1 1/2 hour stop and go commute the super tall REI cupholder held it's ground nicely!

While I don't like the design of this cup holder too much. The problem is solved and I'm happy!
