People in most other countries don't drive at 75 MPH for 12 hours only to still be three additional 12 hour days away from making it to their destination across the country. When you drive across this huge nation, you're going to eat and drink in the car.
There are plenty of folks around the would that drive huge distances. It would be interesting to see if you get accurate numbers. I think it is safe to say, per capita Americans, drive more than most and longer distances on average, simply because the way our attitudes are and the way our country is structured around the automobile.
