Cup holder in 06

I'm not sure what they are like in earlier models but they suck in 06. Has anyone come up with a solution. they are so chinsy cheap.

Not only do they suck, They are in a stupit place. I have a 1995 4runner, and the placement of the cup holder sucks

AWhen I'm driving I usually have a 40 ouncer in there and that works ok......lol

4th Gen Cupholders

I find the cupholders on 4th gen 4Runner to be the best I have ever had. Large, adjustable, rubber lined bottom, and even illuminated. Much better than either my wife's 07 Camry or even the GX470.

While the small storage door cannot be fully opened when the holders are occupied, I have driven many vehicles that place the holders either too far back on the console or impede the shifter in some way. MAny are also too small and shallow.

i hate that stupid adjuster. the only think i find convienant is when i have a giant gatorade. thats the only thing i dont mind drinking in my car

Ok I should have put that a different way , it IS the adjuster I hate , the position of the cup holders are ok. The plastic adjusters and the pc. they are connected to in the center are so fricken flimsy.

Yeah plastic adjusters don't have enough adjustment points. It is either too small or too big for whatever cup I'm using. I've found the best way is to put some paper napkins at the bottom of the cup. They make a nice bed around the sides and fill in the extra gap for the adjusters...

Actually after owning both the runner and the gx, i find that the gx's are much better. Your drink never gets in the way of your controls or the storage drawer. I hated the 4Runner drink holders.

They don't accommdate anything with a handle, or tall and top heavy. Too shallow and too loose. A coffee mug like this works OK. It has the correct diameter for the adjuster.

I think the cupholders on the 4th gen are great. Haven't really found anything that won't fit. You know, the center piece can be removed or moved over to accomodate larger drinks.

Napkin inside definitely helps but then again, I always use a napkin to stop condensation from going all over the place.
