cup holders for '97

we bought a used 97 4runner a yr or so ago, supposedly to have something to drive instead of our full size van to save gas, not so sure it's any better in mileage than the van, but anyway, we have it and drive it when we don't go far and with only a couple of kids. The main problem i have with it is the lack of cup holders. the ones it does have are in front of ac vents and in front of the radio dials. i can't imagine anyone in the design dept. ever thinking that would work at all. i was wondering if anyone out there has come up with a workable solutiong to cup holders for it. i would be willing to take the emergency brake handle out, since we never use it, if there were some holders that will fit in that space. that handle takes up the whole center, and leaves room for nothing else anyway. any suggestions would be appreciated. the other car makers seem to be worlds ahead of toyota when it comes to making things convenient. i probably would never buy anything like this again, but will prob have it another yr until i can pass it on to a kid.

I love those cup holders, but I do agree the positioning of them is not ideal. I wouldn't recommend taking out your E-brake handle though! You could need it in an emergency (imagine something totally whack like your brake pedal breaking off or something. Anyway, I like the way the cup holder grips the cups well. I've had several drinks fall over in my wife's Honda because the cup holders weren't adjustable to the size of cup - I love how they automatically adjust to the right size. I tried to come up with another cup holder or two, but I haven't found anything either. You do know about the two for the rear passengers, by the way? It took me a couple of months to find those for the first time (not that I sit back there ever). They are on the back of the center console just above the ash tray in case you didn't know.
