Time for an update. I FINALLY tracked down a center console from a manual 4x4 and auto 4x4 from a 2nd gen. Now that I have hired and trained folks to produce all of my plastic and metal products and now am back to doing r&d. Here is what I need from the 2nd gen guys. I need a top view pic of the manual tranny with both shifters shoved as far right as possible. I don't know how far over the shifter go so I don't know how much space I have to work with. Also need to see a profile shot from both the auto 4x4 and manual 4x4 of where the center console and dash come together, showing me how far the dash stick out over the console. Maybe just a few zoomed out views of the entire console from the storage compartment up to the dash so I can get the "big picture" of what I'm working with. If someone is willing to volunteer with helping me on each design then I will give them a finalized version for free. I would be sending the volunteers prototypes for test fitting and road testing with expected feedback and pics.

I thought I saw one but can't find it on your website. Did you ever make a double cup holder that mounts on the side of the shifter bezel for a 1st gen 5sp?

I did not. There just wasn't enough space to work with for a double. The shifter levers are in the way. I tried numerous design but none cleared properly.

Just a heads up to anyone planning on putting in an order before Christmas. We will be heading out of town from 12/18-12/29 visiting family in Colorado. Any orders that need to be shipped out and delivered by Christmas must be placed by this Thursday 12/15 in order to be shipped out before I leave and delivered before Christmas. We got back from Colorado last night. We will be unpacking today and will start processing this mtn. of orders this afternoon. I will start shipping out order tomorrow. They will ship out in the order they were placed. Should take about 3 days to get all orders out that came in from 8/18-8/28.

It's been a while since I posted on here. I try not to promote my products anymore. Business is at the point where I'm now struggling to keep up. I try to avoid my old threads now BUT a question is now on my mind that I want to ask all the 4runner guys. I will be asking the same question to the 2nd gen and 3rd gen guys. I'm looking to start downsizing this side business. I will be looking for vendors to start carrying my cup holders so I can step back from the business side of things and just focus on production. Here is my question to you guys. Would you be interested in purchasing the 3D CAD file of my cup holder designs? I'm thinking of opening up my files for download for guys that want to print my stuff on their own or hire someone to print for them. I will still offer the printing service but thought that some would be interested in the file. They would be around $5. If you are interested in the file then let me know. If there is good interest then I will probably go that route. If folks are fine with me printing all the cup holder and have zero interest in the file then I will probably avoid that route. A pm/message or posting here would be great. My thought was that this could possibly lower the demand on me for printing everything.

Between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Gen folks I think I have around a dozen people interested in the CAD file. That doesn't really help me reduce demand/lower my stress. I was hopeful a large group would want the files and have access to getting them 3D printed. I guess we are a few years away from 3D printers being commonly available. Looks like I will just have to sit tight for a few years until the technology is more available.

I do have a question/suggestion though.

have you considered building one of these for the left side of the console? a mirror image of the one you make now. looking at my console, I think there would be enough room on the left side. it might be a tiny bit tight with legs room and such. but im pretty sure my leg is far underneath where the cup holder would be.


that would give us the option of 2 nice cup holders, and closer to each person.

I could mirror it to fit on the driver side but it would be right up against your leg which would be really annoying when pushing the gas peddle. I figured the passenger isn't pushing any pedals so they wont keep bumping into it. The 1st gen is also so narrow that it's not really much of a reach to grab the cup from the passenger side of the console. Your only a couple inches from the cup when your in 5th gear anyways. I have the 80 series double cup holder hanging off the passenger side and the 80 series is WAY wider and I still have zero issues reaching my cups.

i think it would clear, and i would purchase one, if you are willing to make it.

So I have been getting bugged by many to make cup holders for the 1st gen like I did for the 3rd gen guys. (the 2nd gen cup holders will follow) I finally got a local with an 88 4runner to loan me his center console to work from. After spending the last few hours pulling dimensions off of this center console and transferring them to my templates; I realized there is not much space to work with. I started making cup holders for my 80 series which has a TON of space to work with. The 3rd gen was quite a bit less but still doable. This 1st gen project is turning into a beast. I have some questions. Is there a difference in the console/shifter bezel between the automatic and manual. Did yota even make a 2WD gen 1? I was told there is a difference in the tcases and where the shifters come through the console on the manual tranny's. Is that correct? Any pics of the differences in the shifter bezels/center console between the auto, manual, etc. The one I have is off an 88 with IFS. It has the 4x4 shifter directly behind the 5 speed shifter about 4-5" back. Here is what I did for the 3rd gen guys so you have an idea on the direction I might be going. At this point I don't see any way to create a double cup holder for the 1st gen. It looks like the single with cell phone holder is the only option I can fit. I will be as creative as I can in finding space for a double but don't hold me to that.

As many of you already know and I recently found out; photobucket now charges a fee to host images. I am now realizing that all of my images in all of my threads are now blocked by photobucket. I'm going back through and posting the pics of the final designs of all the cup holders. Here are the 1st gen options. There is a single cup holder that mounts to the console, a single that goes in the square hole at the middle of the center console (only works on certain years), and the two doubles that go inside the storage compartment of the two different consoles offered on the 1st gen. I have been getting requests over the last couple years to make a cup holder for that awkward console that has just about zero functional space. It's the console pictured below. I decided to go ahead and try to make something that would work. Can someone tell me what years 1st Gen this console was available?

Here's the cup holder/phone holder I came up with. It was a difficult design due to all the weird angles and lack of good space to work with. I just went into production on these today so I will have a batch ready and have them up on my website some time this weekend. I will let you guys know when they are available.

honestly, I would like one without removable insert. the entire thing could be made a fair amount smaller. I only need it to hold a soda can.

but, im willing to use the standard one in a mirrored position on the drivers side.

Is there a big reason for wanting the cup holder on the driver side instead of passenger side? Have a friend hold a cup in the area that my regular single cup holder will locate a cup. You will see it is easily accessible from the driver's seat without having to lean or stretch for it. If your dead set on mounting it on the driver's side then shoot me a message and we can figure something out.

oh, I currently have your regular cup holder mounted on the passenger side. I love it. but I am often in that rig with 2 people. either with soda's or coffee's. a 2nd cup holder would be great.

My friend's 89 first gen has it also.
