So i looked at options for drawers to store stuff in the cargo area. None looked good or were the right height. I wanted around 4" deep.
My initial goal was to make the entire unit out of 80/20 extrusions (google it). That way all members could use the plans to make their own fairly easily.
When I started trying to lay out the pieces, I figured out that wasn't going to be an option. I still utilized the rail/linear bearing for the slide out, but that is all. The rest is 1/4" x 4" aluminum plate, 1/8" x 2" angle, and 1/8" plate for the top and drawer bottom. The top is re-enforced with 1/2" 80/20 channel every 7". I'm thinking you could stand on this, but don't want to risk 30 hours of work.
I really don't have plans. I measured the width between the wheel wells (43.5") and started building. Here is the almost complete project. I still have fabric that is close to the color/texture of the interior carpet that I will glue to the top so that it blends in and appears to be the floor if you peek in my tinted windows. I am also going to spray the front of the drawer with bed liner spray just to darken it up. Lastly, I am going to bolt in some fold down tie downs and non-slip drawer liner.
