Custom built rear bumper, can't beat free!

So while I was helping my dad up in GA I told him I wanted to build a rear bumper and he said hell lets do it. There I was digging through the scrap pile behind the shop and found a cut up heavy duty field gate 2" tubing 4mm walls so plenty strong. Another random 2"x4"x thick as hell piece for a cross member, 2" receiver stock and a couple pieces of plate and it was time to measure, cut and weld.

Just thrown up for spacing and centering

It's mounted by three 3/4 bolts on each side with the nuts heavily welded on the inside. The inner mounting bracket is a piece cut off my old hitch.







It's still not finished by a long run.
List of things to do:
1. Turn the corners and finish it off at the fender flares
2. Add a tire and fuel tank swing away
3. Make an extended drop down hitch
4. Herculine to match everything else
Not to shabby for free and I got to play with a welder again, got an early spring tan!:flamethrwoer2:

Were from Tazewell GA, 45min east of Ft. Benning/Columbus. I gotta find some 90deg bends so that I can wrap it around the sides. The bottom will join with the top pipe with a 45deg to follow the contour of the fender line. The hitch cost $60, $20 for the 1/4" 2x2x3 square tube and then $40 for the 4hrs I spent in the Hobby Shop on base. Cuttin the $hit took the longest time, no band saw. But it's done, now I can go get the 3 tons of Alabama Red Rock my wife's been bugging me about for landscaping. I'm thinking 2 trips will do it.


Why Chevy Orange? 1. So that its easy to see and hopefully keeps people from breaking their shins on it. 2. Seems like a lot of guys paint small odds and ends to give the rig some color. I haven't seen orange yet so it's mine!
