Custom center console organizer

Hi Guys,
I've been trolling here for a while, absorbing all the great info everyone shares, so I figured it was past due to give back. Here's project I did a while ago.

Let me preface the following post with this disclaimer....I'm a little OCD. As you probably know, the center console is a bit of black hole, swallowing whatever you throw into it. I'm a custom home-builder, and I spend most of the day working in and out of my 4runner. As such, I've got lots of little things I use on daily basis. Shortly after buying it, i realized I needed to add a little sanity to the center console.

After searching for an aftermarket insert, I decided to fab up my own. I bought some 2'x2' 3/16" ABS plastic online. I then pulled the entire console out of the truck, and removing enough screws, the whole unit can be disassembled down to the interior bucket.

Spending an afternoon in the wood shop, I was able to create a tiered tray system, epoxied into place, then covered with a healthy coat of Plasti-dip (my first experience with Plasti-dip....lets just say I'm now a fan). I had already hard-wired the AUX 3.5mm jack directly into my ProClip phone mount, so I buried the box entirely

In the lower area, I keep the following:
Custom First-Aid kit.
100' Tape measure
Bottle of aspirin
Box of extra business cards
Electrical circuit check tool
Extra phone cables

In the upper tray which is removable, I keep:
A selection of pens and pencils
A couple large sharpies
Surefire flashlight & Gerber multi-tool
Hand sanitizer, pill bottle full of quarters & 16' Tape measure

you can also see the forward two slots.
On one side are two card holders; business cards & store reward cards,
On the other side are keys to my projects currently being built.

Each item has a home, and everything is nice and secure...no rattling, and I can reach in the dark while flying down the highway, and find exactly what I need.

Excellent use of space! Mikey likes it! :)

Been meaning to do something similar; until then, it's just throw everything into the pit.

I'd have a hard time making custom ones for people. I'd need all your gear ahead of time so I could lay out the dividers as optimally as possible.
I literally held the divider up against the tape measure while i did a small plastic weld.
Thanks for all the Kudos...this forum has been a great inspiration (and loss of many hours searching/playing).

This has given me the idea to a custom one for my truck. I'm not as worried about the sizes of the compartments, but I'd like to wire a usb port to it and have it wired to my system. Right now it's all done to the glove box but the center console would be much easier for manipulation.

I made mine out of wood to store nearly the same items. I added a hinged top for easy access to items, plus the ability to keep my iPod/wallet on top for quick access. I really like mine.

This one, however, is totally awesome. I'd kill for this. I'm with others on this forum...I'd pay you to make me one with the same dimensions.

A simple removable tray would be awesome. I'd definitely be interested if you wanted to make some.

Surprised nobody's made one of these commercially available. My console is a black hole, hard to find things I need without digging through a lot of stuff.

Hi Guys, I'm swamped with a project for at least the next 45 days, but if you ping me after the holidays, I may be able to make a few for people. Not sure what the cost would be yet...will have to let you know. For options, you could either send me your bucket, or I could order new ones from Patznet for 51.71 ea. Thoughts?

Hi Jaden, I'd be interested in this as well. I could send you my bucket for mods.

Let me know after the holidays if you're still up for this project :)

Thanks, Greydog
