Custom Interior Cargo Area Bike Rack!

Hey guys i just wanted to share my custom bike rack i made. Its easy and CHEAP! Hope ya enjoy lemme know what you think...

First i went on Amazon and ordered two front fork mounts for bikes. Then i went in our shed and found a perfectly sized 2x6 we had laying around. *Literally did not have to cut and fit in the back very well*. Then i went to home depot and bought some indoor/Outdoor Dark Grey carpet and wrapped the 2x6 in carpet. And finally just screwed the mounts down into the 2x6 and placed in the back. I use my bike to get to class from parking. The parking lot is literally on the opposite side of campus and a waste of time walking so i just ride and park it at my last class and just use it to get to and from the parking lot. 3 min. bike ride vs. 10 min. walk... So this mount is very useful especially since my front rim also has the lever locking type fastener. Easy on easy off.

Here is the mounting bracket i ordered off Amazon. When it is closed you can lock it with a padlock in case you have an extremely expensive bike but its already locked in my truck with Toyotas infamous alarm so im not worried.

I normally ride around with only the passenger side seat down for the bike to fit. If i need to fit two bikes all i do is put up the other seat and push the sub back. Like below. I usually put my booksack on the rear seat. Theres not to much room with the seat up due to overly large sub *but it was free so who can pass that up?*

Very similar to mine. I didn't do carpet but did add some plastic with grip type hooks on the bottom to hold it in place.

do you have to adjust your bars to fit the roof or do you normally ride with them drooped like that? I have a roof mount bike rack, and it locks, but I'm still uneasy leaving my truck unattended with my (formerly JohnsD90's)Rockhopper on the roof:

Thanks for all the input! It really means alot especially since im new to the forums! And yeah unfortunately i have to adjust them but its mostly because of the handlebars i have on. I think i may change them out eventually. Its not too bad but i just keep my allen wrench set sitting in the back by the mounts so its a few turns and a twist so just an extra 30 secs. Except me being clumsy i drop it ever so often... I actually almost bought a Yakima roof mounting rack but realized how much a pain it would be hauling it up there every morning and afternoon. Not to mention $$ haha. Again appreciate the comments! And yeah if i had a nice bike id deffinitely lock her up! Only paid $225 for this one, just a Schwinn with all new components. My neighbour across the street runs his own shop in his backyard and did it for me so even if i do have trouble he'd be willing to help. hes more of a road biker though i kinda wanted an offroad bike but since its mostly Campus paths this bike fits my needs very well!

Sleek, I'm not a bicyclist, creative mod though, very cool!... but i spy Memphis! I got 2 M3 12" subs and memphis 1500watt amp, took em off my last 4runner and am about to throw them in my current one. Love it! Sorry for hijack, back to topic.

nice setup! almost did that but i scored on this bike rack. Bryan, you should really get one of these. i got tired of putting bikes on the roof after a day of riding, and this thing is just so easy. has all the locking mechanisms built into the swing arm that goes over the front tire

Oh Yeah!! The sub was given to me by my girlfriends dad so i couldnt say no! So i just went on Crutchfield and bought a cheap 200 Watt amp. Its not much but i Love it! and Thank You!

I kinda wanting a hitch mounting one also but i didnt want someone to hit me and ruin my bike. 1 week after owning my 4Runner some Dumb a** ran it to the back of me and thankfully only damaged his front valence on my hitch haha. But just my opinion and No worries on the hijacks everyone does it once in a while.... haha Like the rack btw it does look nice.

well the bikes are high enough up that im not to worried about it, and if someone hit my bikes, not only would i probably kick their a*# out of anger, but i would make them pay for it too. now with the rack, their warranty is pretty good. someone backed into the one on my buddys 4runner and they told him to send them an email on the "defective" product, and they sent him a brand new one!

haha Yeah i like the current brakes the brake line is easy to remove for when i put my front tire on. Takes every bit of 10 secs... haha

Oh okay yeah that makes more sense and wow! That seems like a very reputable company! I still like the hitch mounts i just needed something quick and cheap and this worked fine. Next year im going to transfer to a college that is like 10 mins from my house vs. the 45 min drive currently where i may use my bike more so i might end up buying a nicer rack. So i will definitely keep that in mind! and Yeah i would be extremely Poed if someone hit my 4Runner much less jacked up my bikes. The removing and remounting the tire does get old but when i can leave my class and be on the interstate before other people even get to their car i get over it haha.
