Well, I've been unable to find any business willing to make a custom receiver for my 87 at a reasonable price. One guy did ballpark it at $700...and he's the only one willing to give me a price.
Seems they're worried about liability. If they make it from scratch and there's any litigation, they're on the hook for the whole thing. On the other hand, if they mount a generic receiver purchased from a wholesaler, made by a manufucturer, there are three parties defending themselves...spreads the liability.
Anyway...
I did find someone willing to make the receiver (and bumper if I prefer) if I design it. Of course, I'll also have to mount (bolt on) it myself. I can see where that isolates him from liability.
Why?
The 1-ton Chevy springs are mounted at the read end of the frame rail, making typical access to the frame impossible.
So I'm open to design recommendations for the receiver and bumper. I'm thinking just a 2"x4" rectangular tube for the bumper. Inputs?
I'll post some explanatory photos later.
TIA,
Jon
