Custom Roof Rack

I'm starting the build for my custom roof rack, I'm wondering where I can get some good quality aluminum or maybe steel mesh? I want to add it to the top of the rack like this:


Any ideas?

OK....so maybe not too many people know.

I'm looking for some good rectangular driving lights to mount to the roof rack, any suggestions?

For your first question I would jump on your local yellow pages.. That is called expanded metal... Most steel yards carry it or look for fence builders they use that stuff a lot.


For your second question: what is your budget?

Of course not all the links are rectangular. PIAA also makes some nice rectangular lights but as Outdoor Logic asked it is about budget.

Thanks for the response, now that I know its called expanded metal it will be a lot easier to find it.

As for my budget, I'm not going to be using them enough to justify spending close to a grand on roof lights, although Pikeman those things look they turn night into day! I'm probably more in the budget of PIAA's or Hella. I was thinking about maybe the Hella 550's with a HID conversion? But I'm open to any suggestions...

And any issues with running 4 lights on factory battery/alternator? I'm not electrically inclined, does anyone think I would need some upgrades or dual battery setup?

I have 4 Hella 550's. 2 that were mounted and wired and 2 that were never wired up that I will make you a good deal on. Can provide the relays and I think switches if I can find them.
