custom wheels. size question?

ok, just joined, first post. here we go lol.

i did some searching but could really find the answers im looking for.

we have a 2WD 4runner that is currently stock. SR5 with 16" wheels, boo!

it needs new tires, so time for new wheels since i dont want to pay $$ to put rubber back on the boring 16s.

i work at a custom wheel company. since i need some new tires, boss said he'd hook me up with some new wheels for the truck.

these are custom wheels, so offset and widths can be custom.

first, im trying to decide between 17s and 18s. personally, i think the ride in this truck is somewhat stiff as it is. and that's with 70 series tires! to keep the same OD, the tires would have to drop to 60s.

i dont really take the truck off road but like the look (mall crawler, i know). i do plan to get a wrangler in the next couple of years for 4wd duty.

id like a somewhat aggressive looking offroad tire. i found some that fit the bill.

now im just trying to figure out what sizing to go with.

im thinking of doing the 1.5" spacer up front to level it out a little. which can also allow bigger tires.

if i go 17", i can go with either 7, 8 or 10" widths (front and rear).

if i go 18", i can go 7, 8 or 9.5"

im leaning towards 18" just because its kind of cool to have somewhat bigger wheels. and the 17s tend to look TOO small.

im not sure how wide i can go on this truck. i know 8" will work just fine but how about 9.5"?

id like to go with a nice wide tire if possible. maybe a 275? if so, 9.5 would be ideal. not sure about running a 275 on an 8" wheel....?

i can also do 265s if that would be a better idea.

and then im looking at profile. id love to go with a 65 series tire to retain some sidewall cushion but at 275 that is BIG and will require the spacer lift before putting them on.

just curious on some feedback on the sizes. 17 vs 18. 255 vs 265 vs 275. 60 vs 65 series...

is 275 TOO big for a street driven 2WD mallcrawler? id like it to look GOOD but not if it will be detrimental to the ride quality or performance (if a LOT)

sorry if its a lot and i could find too much helpful info as it seems most people run oem wheels which are quite a bit narrower.

if you could choose to custom make your sizes, what would you go with and why?

thanks in advance :thanks:
