This is my girlfriends 98 4 runner V6. It feels like it is running out of gas and kinda cuts out for 5 to 10 seconds above 50 mph. It will go away and is not always consistent. It has 148K on it and the timing belt has not been changed and needs to be. Any Ideas? Thinking fuel pump or maybe fuel filter? Does anyone no where the fuel pump is located? Thanks

Why do you say the water pump is 60k overdue? I've always heard to change the wp at the second timing belt interval, not the first. I know with gm, the wp gets changed about that mileage, but haven't really heard of toyotas needing them changed that soon....
Thanks and just curious as all....I've got 159k on mine, haven't changed the wp yet....
btw, I would check the fuel pump/filter as well and change the filter if you haven't yet....

Water pump will cost you "only" $100 and you are already there while changing your first timing belt. I replaced mine without a second thought.
Maybe plugs?
Make sure you check out this thread. That's about the right speed where the engine will start to miss when the spark plugs fail. On mine I figured it was fuel, ignition or tranny. Fortunately, for most it seems to be ignition and a simple plug replacement fits the bill. Although changing the plugs is easy, read this thread . An excellent write up that will save you lots of time.
